For what the FTO delivers, the fuel economy figures you're getting are pretty good. You have to realise that there is a compromise between power and efficiency.sarpk wrote:lol LPG is bs atm as it costs 89 cents per L damn it was 59 sev months ago!
Hopefully I'll be going from australia few years later so I'll sell it anyways so it wouldn't matter that much if i sell it now or later.
Yeah I cannot handle the cost of v6 engines so i better be looking at 4 cylinder cars.
My truck, for what it's worth, is running WAY more power and torque than standard. It's got bigger tyres and is lifted 2", and yet with all my extra power I still get better economy than when I pull the chip out and drive to the dealerships.
It's all down to how you drive the car and how you use the power/torque it's got. A smaller engined car will not always be more efficient than a larger engined car. That being said, if you really want to get rid of it and downgrade, no one is going to stop you.
I'll have an FTO one day... i swear!

You were using 15L/100km in a Magna?Astron_Boy wrote:Umm, use 95, it's slightly cheaper.
Don't flog the car and there you go.
Man, I'm cheering with 9L/100 on both the merc and fto (95 octane), coming from 15L with the RVR and Magna. (98 octane)
And as mentioned, ok, buy another car, but then the money you save in petrol you spend on extra rego/ insurance, etc...
doesn't work out, I did that math long ago and said screw it (kept collecting cars, only live once.)
I was thinking of getting a 2003 KJ 3.5L Verada as a daily...

Re: Suggestions for petrol friendly cars???
You can get 9 litres per 100 km and you are whinging? You don't have to run it on 98, the FTO runs perfectly fine on regular unleaded.sarpk wrote:It's not just that one.spetz wrote:9L/100km isn't bad...
I mean, really the best you can hope for from a smaller car is maybe 7L.
So, 350km per week is 7L difference per week, or roughly $10 a week.
Is it worth the hassle?
I have to use 98 octane whereas if i get 91 it will save me also 15 cents per liter.
And like I've said 350 is minimum, averagely it's about 450-500km
let's make a quick calc on min results. I spend min 32 liters 98 octane fuel which is 161 cents atm. So it makes $51.5pw
Whereas If i use more fuel efficient car, It will be about 25 liters 91 octane which is 146 atm, which is $36.5
yeah so 15 dollars difference per week, 60 bucks per month, 720 bucks per year!
So when you consider it on a long term it really would worth it. Besides this is my minimum calcualtion...
I usually get 400kms a tank!

The 3rd gens are pretty decent on fuel economy.
My first gen Sedan was doing about 11L and that motor is 20+ years old with a race cam in it.

It is suggested to use FTOs on 100 octane, 91 would ruin. I dunno how you achieve 400kms a tank, maybe driving your fto around 5-6k RPM?

I always thought FTO's when new were rated to use 98 octane, was 100 octane available in 1994?

98 is the closest we've got (on everyday petrol stations)

Long exposure however is a different story.
occasional use the engine won't suffer.

I don't think it will be a problem to run it on 91 till engine blows up

Re: Suggestions for petrol friendly cars???
I've researched and there are few stations that actually sell 100 octane however it is only with the combination of ethanol, so not actually pure unleaded 100 ethanol fuel.bass_twitch wrote:In Japan, yes.PHIL069 wrote:I always thought FTO's when new were rated to use 98 octane, was 100 octane available in 1994?sarpk wrote: regular?

Re: Suggestions for petrol friendly cars???
Dunno how this thread has dragged out as long as it has,
If you want/care about a petrol friendly car, get a prius or gtfo
For what the fto is i think it is pretty damned good on fuel, most sports cars chew through a tank in a day - i get on average 600 city driving before the fuel light comes on, so you need to replace some things or your doing it wrong (and i dont drive like a grandma to get that either)

Dunno how you guys get so good economy. I struggle to get under 10 even in a tiny hatch back. FTO is just above 400kms for me.
Too much road rage me thinks.

Re: Suggestions for petrol friendly cars???
Dunno how much it affects my mileage but I very rarely have the ac on. Always slow down gradually to a light and most of the time don't have to stop etc the little things. I shift at 3-4 k average as well so I could probably squeeze a little more out me thinks.
