I don't know if you have fixed your shaking/vibrating steering yet but I will tell you my story.
About one year ago my FTO started vibrating at 90km and got worse the faster I went, my rear wing was vibrating that hard I thought it was going to break off. When I got time to check it out I jacked up the front end and found that my passenger link rod was bent, on further inspection I noticed that my front passenger Tien coilover had oil on the shaft. I sent my coilovers away for a rebuild and $900 later they were fixed, they had blown seals and a bent shaft. The blown seals caused the shock to bounce, vibrate the vehical at speed, bend the shaft, bend the link rod and flat spot my 1 month old tyre(which I had to replace ).
All is fixed now and my ride is as smooth as

Hmm.... not sure how a blown seal would cause that much damage to be honest. IMO, it could create a loss of oil and therefore no control over the spring due to massive aeration, however not to the extent where you'd be replacing parts that aren't associated with the strut (except the tyres due to wear).
I'm just telling it how it was, the nitrogen/oil shock blew its seals and bounced at a very high rate at speed, vibrating the hell out of the FTO, which in turn caused its own shaft and nerby components to fail ( the sway bar link rod is attatched to the strut, the shaft is inside the strut, the tyre is controlled by the strut). Fixed the shock and fixed the problem. The tyre flat spotted because it was bouncing during braking rather than rolling.

You know what, I have suspected it may be related to my shocks (which are apparently leaking... 170thou-ish old stock ones). - And my old (rubbish) mechanic said that something was bent, so you could well be on the money! or at least close to it. How did you end up coming to that conclusion and figuring all this out?
Well at first I thought it was my rear wing blade coming loose (because of the vibrations ), but after doing all I could to tighten the wing the FTO still vibrated.
So I started looking under the car, I was going to look at the back suspension after the front, when I jacked the front up on stands (chocked the rear wheels really well) I started the motor, put it into gear and took the speedo up to 90km (and hoped the stands didn't break and the FTO fly into the garage door @ 90km ) and the car started to vibrate, I got my son to operate the accelerator to 90km (which he loved doing , you don't get to drive at 90km staying still everyday) while I checked out what was going on.
The passenger front wheel was having a major spasm . So I started to investigate the area and found the failed components and leaking strut. The rest is history.
You might be able to take your FTO to a suspension shop and get then to run live tests on it, if they have the right equipment, maybe pedders.

Probably take it to penrith wholesale suspension - heard they are pretty good. (not sure if they run tests though)
