My FTO Is "Shaking".. :(

Post by Rosiebella »

Okay so my FTO is overdue for a service..

But the thing is I want to learn to do everything myself but find out from a mechanic what will need replacing. My car is shaking so i'm guessing a new timing belt, coils, air intake cleaned out, oil changed.. and if anyone can tell me what else so I can start looking out for parts before my actual service.. My car jumps forward a few times when it's rolling under sixty. When in tiptronic it likes to choose it's own gears.. and i can tell that my FTO has lost a fair bit of the power it used to have I mean it couldn't even beat a stupid landcruiser and that's sad.....

So if anyone could tell me the main things I will need to get going by these problems that would be a big help.. It also has oil leaks but I know that.

I'm buying a new car soon but I will be keeping this car forever as it's value in money isn't worth it's value to me :) lame but true.

You have to describe the "shaking" a bit better.
What rpm, at idle? On the go? Speed related? etc

The shaking as in like it sounds like the engine is struggling causing the steering wheel to vibrate/shake.
216,000kms, revs at one to two on idle but idles really bad as it has battery problems so the revs go up and down with the battery gage while its in idle.. lol my car has a mind of its own.. or needs some under hood love.

ok well prob due for major service unless was done at around 200k (timing belt etc)

Stepper motor needs replacing not battery for idle issue

Vibrating wheel either means wheels need to be balanced or tyre stuffed or buckled wheel. Could also just be brake disc needs replacing if problem under braking ;)

If you are copping jumping rpm at low speeds and bad idle, i will check the tps.
