If you doing the proper spray, the original paint would be striped & sand back, with at least 2-3 coat of under lay afterward & then respray to what ever colour you want. & thats what u get if you paying $5k+.mxysxy wrote:I will go through with complete respray and proper way.
What are the things I have to be sure in this process?
I heard about door jams and engine bay also have to be respray to get the best quality.
What does spraying engine bay means? Is that mean they will pull out the engine and spray inside?
But if i was you i just do a normal respray, with just an over coat on top of your exsiting one, (of course they would sand the old paint back a bit so it won't turn out so thick) & u don't need to strip the windows & all the seal off. Cost less & no one can tell the different.
Theres only two reasons i can think of why the "Over Coat" method would peel off
1. The guy is a "Dick head" & can't do the job correctly, as i've seen cars with "over coat" last more then 10yrs now, & still looks good as new, plus most cars out there with respray are done this way.
2. The owner didn't take care of his/her car, such as leaving the car under the sun everyday or open area with out any protection or wax/polish. Which can also happen to brand new car that had original paint too.
My bloody cents

Recommended Spray Painters?
I couldn't find anything from a search and it's sort of on this topic so does anyone have any recommendations on body shops? Personally, I'm looking to get my FTO resprayed in Brisbane so I'd appreciate it if anyone could pass on their experience.

I wouldn't do that, cause u have to cut the wielding point, which mean a bigger job & even u find the same color panel, it won't be exactly the same, cause it would oxides differently, which mean color would be a slightly different.mxysxy wrote:Is it possible to pull out front left and right pannels (which covers the tyres) of the FTO?
Cos, there might me a front half fto and I can get the front spoiler, bonnet and side pannels. So instead of respraying my car, I can just change them with the others.

Hey, I had a look at the front side pannels and they are screwed to the chassis(doenst look like welded), there are 4 screws on top, in the engine bay, and some more on the sides and the bottom, so this swapping panels might work for me, if it turns out to be real cheap.
Man, I am so angry, if only I could find who did this, will screw all the screws into them.

i got a quote of 2k for a complete respray the same colour includign replacing all the seals (the proper way), you should find other places with similar quotes.
Though if the scratches are not near any windows or seals, then you should be able to get away with blending and masking, which would save around $500+.
Im not sure about the giuy you spoke to, but it sounds like he thinks you want to respray a different colour, because if there is no scratches near the seals there is no reason to respray there, and the repairer should be able to sand up close to it and blen the rest of the paint. though if there is a lot of fading you would be best to pull out all the seals and windows and do it the proper way.
one final thing is that the if you get this guys plate it will be very hard to press charges unless you can link the plates to the ones on the video footage, or a description, have you got a copy of the tape ?? if you can get your hands on the tape, im sure some one here would be able to enhance it . otherwise we could take a few still shots and post of other forums looking for that car . it would also help distinguish modifications the guy has made narrowing down the car. ie make/design of spolier/skirts/front bumper etc.
did he do it by him self, seems very strange for some one to make a random attakc like that by himself, unless it was personal

Nope, cops are not giving me the tape, neither showing it. I talk with the security of the Northland shopping centre for the video, and they are only letting the cops to watch it.
Cops said that there are teenager gangs around that area that does this for fun. And even, cops are sure that, who ever did this were watching when I found the car, just to see my impression.
Also cops daid, this is a regular thing for them for Northland shopping centre, which they quoted that in a normal weekend day there are 3 stolen/broken car cases come to them.

Hey GAV, what sort of painting are you talking about.
Cause the part I am confused is that, repairers keep saying that they have to paint and bake my car 2 times as FTO's has somesort of special paint.
You more sound like a touch up spray paint.
Also, scrathes are from one side of the panel to the other side, apparently this makes it difficult to do just a patch.

private jobs they try and rip you off all the time, if you can get a photo of the damage, i know it may cause temporary blindness due to tears, but my friend works at a smash repair and will be able to give you advice

hey sorry to hear about what happend to your car!!!
the guy drives a white lancer with red mitsubishi symbol yeh?? when u mean by old lancer, do u mean evo3 shape, or evo4??
although there are HEAPS of lancers around, i think it would be easier for us to spot a white one with 3 red diamons on the bonnet... anyway, if i see this car, i'll get the plate down...
lets give him a lesson as well... fk'n arsehole!

Very sorry to hear the story.
We should try to keep this post near the top of the forum and get all the Victorian members involved to try to spot this guy. Hopefully if someone can get his rego the police might be a bit more helpful.
If not, when someone spots him, follow him to his home and work address.
If a group of FTO owners call on his door, he may come arround (most likely not! ). But if someone has found where he works, the threat of telling his boss what he has done may be enough to get him to pay for the damages.
Best of luck.
Get to it Vic members.

Evil or Very Mad
Have`nt any of the Melb members spotted this guy yet.
Surely a car like this would be easy to spot.
Yet a again I implore people ( esp Melb ) to keep this thread near the top and someone spot this Bast**d.

honestly, I chased 2 old white Lancers, hoping that I can match the cars, however, wasnt a close match. No logo on the bonet, etc...
Also, once a month I just go to Northland shopping center with my girl friends car and just go through the car park to see if I can spot the bugger, so I can belt him.

I know how you feel my car got keyed whilst parkeds at Venue 28 a few days after I got it back from the panel shop being repaired from my accident... WORDS can not describe what I was thinking when I saw the deep scratches in my fresh paint work!
I think we need to set up a hotline for people of all car forums and advertise it on the cars for rewards if people catch vandalists in the act !
More needs to be done about this and the penalty needs to be harsh !
People caught vandalizing should be crucifide in my book .... it's not fair that you work hard to get what you have got but these pricks need to be taught a lesson!
Im definately keeping an eye open for this car and any others I catch vandalizing cars and will be reporting them!
And GOD HELP anyone I ever catch near my car , because I can tell you I won't be too impressed.
