brake calipers....

hey guys, i would like to ask if anyone knows how to take off the brake caliper, coz im thinkin to give it a little touch of color, it will be very helpful for me if anyone could help. thanks a lot guys..GOD BLESS Y'ALL ...

You dont need to go to the trouble of taking the calliper off! It creates more work!! It doesnt matter if you get a bit of paint on the discs, becuase they will wear off very quickly!

You need either engine enamel or caliper spray which can stand up to 1500c degree.

mine is in gold if anyone remember my FTO hehe, i give some mechanic to do it thought, because i heard some stuff about getting cancer off the brake pad dust or something

I hate that stuped stock colour.

BTW, my disks always oxidises all the time. Is this normal?

My old ex-lancer used to do this as well.

byw, wouldnt anyone get cancer if there is asbestos in the brake pads, just by washing the car, or just by cleaning the alloys.
Or even just after coming from shopping with bit of agressive braking, where all those particules might be floating in the air, straight after stopping the car.

I think it's only over a period of time.

I know that there has been significant research about mechanics, and the oil/dirt that they get in contact with everyday, and from memory the results are not very good, like so many diseases that they can get... makes me wanna wear latex gloves when changing oil!

Now, back on topic, my calipers are RED, they look so sweet, the only downside is that the paint has started to flake off in some areas, and my rotors are also rusty...

I just did mine this week (well, fronts only at this stage - waiting for the new rear pads to come in) in Blue. Very easy to do - just clean them up, mask off areas you don't want to paint and spray it on. On the DIY page they used a brush, but a can works fine. Just make sure that you cover up all the brake lines etc. And don't worry if any get on the disc - they will be clean the instant you use your brakes.

It does take a while to do, but does look good.

I just bought some caliper paint from robbos, cost me only $17
I will try to do it this week, but its so much pain taking the wheels off

Make sure you clean the calipers with degreaser first, I found them to be the best for cleaning calipers, as they absorb the dist so they won't go every where, & also it should strip it back to bare metal, so your paint won't come off later.

I painted mine blue last week. I used a brush and some blue metal paint. You don't need high temperature paint because calippers don't heat up. The discs do. Don't believe me? Drive around for an hour then touch the different parts. Good luck,

Maybe your not braking hard enough, after a spirited drive my rims are hot from the brakes.

Calipers Do get hot - the heat resistant paint is not that more xpensive than normal paint. VHT brake caliper paint in the spray can is very effective

This job is not a complicated one Just like mrx, kev and others have said:

-Before anything CLEAN VERY VERY WELL. Trust me this helps you get a nice even layer/s
-Easy to Keep the caliper on and then mask everything u dont want painted with newspaper and pieces of masking tape
- Spray caliper- apply more coats for a fuller pro look.

Got to agree there as well.

Calipers do definately get hot.

Even the wheel nuts get pretty warm too.

You would definately be wise to get some high temparture paint.
