So did we then work out what size the tank is then? Cos all I see is numbers and people's different guesses at their tank capacities

I was 5L off.

so, the FTO does roughly 9L/100kms mostly highway driving, which again, sounds about right.

I got my car chugging before hitting a servo and got in 57 liters I think.

I'm a lead foot and rarely get over 450kms.

Extreme fuel saving tips:

Race tape your bonnet, boot and other panel gaps. Worth ~ 0.0005 cd

Charge your battery to full and unplug/ don't use any electrics or air con in the car. Worth ~ 0.5L/100km the less load on the engine the better.

Lower your car... Seriously it reduced drag significantly.

Reduce brake drag, if your brake pads are touching the disks at all when driving your wasting fuel I dunno how to adjust it but I'm sure regular brake servicing would suffice.

Drive in the highest gear possible at all times and if your car has enough power start from stop in second gear. (Makes a real big difference)

Last thing is something I don't recommend anyone doing it turning off the car at lights and while stopped. It will save fuel but reduces the life of your starter motor pretty badly.

All these things will save you a lot of fuel but many are impractical so don't ge sh*t for this this is only if you want some serious fuel efficiency and range .

I am a lead foot and can't even get little hatch backs under 10 liters per 100kms.

Brakes are always dragging on your rotors and you can't do anything about it. Starting in a higher gear from stop will not save you fuel, but will make you use more fuel due to the load on your engine.

Obviously its hard to completely stop the brakes dragging but to minimize is best .

And starting in second gear saves a heap of fuel because although more fuel would be used per combustion but less overall due to slower engine speed. This tip works better with a more powerful car though.

How are you going to minimise brake drag? Shove a screw driver between the pad and rotor every time you lift off the brake pedal?

That's crap, an engine straining at low rpm will always use more petrol. Why the hell do cars with more gear ratios always use less fuel than one that has less?

I think with regard about the brake drag is to do with braking habits over the fact a cars pads are always in contact with the rotor.

As for starting in second gear, yes it does save fuel, however only on level surface, obviously on an uphill it's a waste (Fact: Mercedes 'economy' setting has the car start in 2nd gear -dependant-)

The better matched a cars revs are to it's speed the better fuel economy you will get.
once you get to the bigger speeds where more gears are beneficial then they make sense.

The avg pos box has 5 gears and under for it's city driving over the euro derived autobahn monsters with the now I think 8 gears they are up to..

Got 601ks and the fuel light was not on. Chickened out and filled her up again before home.. 51ltr to fill..
