They said HKS is the best in this FTO website where they tested all the pod filters, have a look:-

I was lucky, I bought it off a girl with an FTO brand new for $120 coz she just bought it but never had the time to install it. But i think u can get 2nd hands one for $120. Try skylines downunder forum, they have a lot of 2nd hand and also, mine fitted perfectly, with the right amount of tools it'll take 10mins. easy, just take off air box and put in filter, walah.

You might also want to have a look at this website, as the HKS filter is also one of the worst at keeping your engine clean and long term this can cause lots of problems.
http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filter ... index.html
Personally I'd go for the K&N pod filter as it offers better cleaning and offers either the same HP increase or close to, depending upon which website you go by. If you use an even larger K&N pod filter you'll get an even better response.
However, I'd make a couple of changes...
1) Use the largest filter pod filter that will still fit in the FTO (the one K&N make for the Calais is a good fit) as this will reduce turbulence and improve filtration
2) Use an enclosure (like the UAS one), not a heatshield (heatshields don't lower the ambient temperature of the air under the bonnet)
3) Use a CAI pipe from the front of the car. If you remove the stock airbox piping you can run two seperate pipes in from the bumper of your car. This colder air will have a higher density improving performance
For further benefits you could also look at replacing the intake pipe that comes from the engine and replacing the breather hose with a catcher can.

PerfectRun website is advertising HKS for $237 and APEXI for $214
http://www.perfectrun.com.au/performanc ... lowset.htm
http://www.perfectrun.com.au/performanc ... intake.htm
And I found Apexi on ebay for around $150 including shipping.
I guess it is better to get apexi from ebay financially, considering I have to respray my car.

hey, I am just about to buy this apexi air filter
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... gory=33659
This guy has leaving it for AUD$130 including the shipping cost.
He also said that this will fit 95 FTO GPX.
However, on the photo, product code is 500-A023 which is described as
. Also I had a look at the PerfectRun web site and they quote the item number as
Do you think I do the right think by buying the one from ebay and more importantly is it the right size? I dont think the price will get any cheaper for a brand new apexi.

be wary of tests though.... I know this test that ruchi mentioned rates the Apexi as the best..... but the
http://www.mitsubishi-fto.org/parts/air ... index.html site also ran a test and from memory the apexi was one of the worst performed...
( the link is currently not working for the actual test)
so, i dont know what differences they did on testing....
I bought mikey's second hand apexi filter (the older model) and I think it sounds great, looks the part, and seems to give a better response, but I also have nothing to compare it with.

Filters come in different sizes as the breathing requirements of engines differ. Generally speaking, the larger the engine size the more air it needs and the larger the filter you require.
As the FTO has a relatively small engine (2L) the filters that are normally recommended for them are down the smaller end. By using a filter which is larger you get improved airflow, less air turbulence and better filtration as the surface area is greater.
As mentioned above, I'd go for a pod filter, some sort of enclosure and CAI piping.

no stupid questionsmxysxy wrote:Cant we simply put the pod filter in to the stock air box? or this is such a stuped question?

the answer is however no
you can get panel filters made up of the same materials however the problem is more to do with the restrictions than increased airflow of a pod filter...
for more information check out the FTO Project to find our where gains can be made
