How many PCV Valves does FTO have?

Noob question. tried to clean the PCV valve, lots of gunks in it. Heard its recommended to replace it every 80,000km. Mine is way past that already so might as well get a new one.

im seeing 1. Is there another one at the back?

Just one per fto. It is on the front bank.

Also, if you plan on upping compression ratios (either by forced induction or other means) then I recommend a PCV filter. These help to lessen the amount of "blow-by" you'll get from the increased crank-case pressures.

There is actually a second one, well its more of a straight pressure valve, embedded within the vacuum line from the manifold to the brake booster

The pcv valve's purpose is to aid in reducing crank case pressure where as the one way valve on the brake booster line is there to keep the booster at vacuum when the engine is not producing a vacuum. This is a safety feature so that if the car stalls, you still have enough of a vacuum for your brakes to work.

What puzzles me is why the one way valve is in the hose and not the brake booster itself.

If you are going to clean it, make sure you use electronics cleaner which is alcohol based and not a harsher cleaner like carb or brake cleaner which contain acetone and other chemicals that are too aggressive on plastic / rubber.

i used throttle body cleaner. a nice strong jet into both sides, keep tapping it and pieces of gunk fell out....yew...did the best i could. hope it works better now.

found out PCV valve from camskill including postage costs 95pounds!!! = AUD141.....

You can get generic ones everywhere and the grommet that Mitsubishi rip you off on can be bought from Toyota for ten bucks. The Chrysler Sebring also has the same pcv as the Fto this can be had t Chrysler for a lot less.

So it was the cause of your oil consumption??

Did compression test. It was ok. so left with the valve guide service. But since its an expensive job and i read that PCV valve could be one of the contributor of oil consumption and more over a cheap item. I'll just change that and see if it helps.

Out of desperation, i dropped in a can of Liqui Moly Oil Resealer recently and the once-in-a-while exhaust smoke is gone.

no you dont pcv valve goes in the bin but this depends on how you set up the catch also

A pcv valve does not hurt performance, there is no good reason why you would want to get rid of it.

The pcv valve will stop excess oil being sucked out of the heads while the engine is idling (as this is when the vacuum is greatest). Having a catch can just means that the oil will be caught in the catch can rather than burnt by the motor but with no pcv, oil will still be sucked out of the heads for no good reason.

Removing the pcv valve will only result in having to top up the oil more frequently in your motor.

There are benefits from keeping the crankcase at a vacuum but this requires a vacuum pump, a dry sump setup, catch cans that will recycle caught oil and some serious effort to make sure that the motor doesn't suffer from oil starvation. Simply replacing the pcv valve with a catch can is just silly.

Removing the pcv valve is illegal. It is considered an emissions control device and therefore cannot be modified without having the car engineered.

I run 2 custom built catch cans and a pcv in my setup, I have put considerable research into understanding how the whole system works but if you are still convinced that removing the pcv valve is the way to go, please enlighten us as to why you think it is better to run an FTO without a pcv valve and what we can hope to gain without one. Some punctuation and correct grammar would also be nice.
