fto hatched?

Post by mattman »

hi everyone loving the power of my fto and they look hot to but im a big fan of hatches so i was thinking and doing some research why not do an engine swap on a mirage from what i have read brakes hubs front and rear sway bars motor box seats all bolt into the mirage so this would mean i would still have the awesome mivec motor with that sexy sound but in a lighter hatch which is perfect and should be quicker. im really thinking about this but not sure if i should strip my fto and put as much as i can on the mirage or sell the fto and get a front cut but i have heard manual fto's are rare and pricey?

I think it would be easier to get good audio sound in an FTO than doing an engine transplant into a Mirage...

Here's a list of possible solutions;

1.) Plough the Mirage off a cliff.
2.) Start drinking Cruisers and Breezers.
3.) Buy an Audi TT or equivalent appropriate looking hatch.
4.) Create the world's first FTO hatch.

Which one sounds easiest? :D

I love coming home from work at 6am and being an asshole. <3

wouldnt u be better off finding the 'best match for engine' in a mirage than settling with the 6a12?

A mirage can be converted to AWD pretty easily from what I have seen/ been told.

They also covert to 4G63t.. So why not do a Mirage/Evo AWD monster instead of wasting a good FTO engine..?

Or, if FTO engines go in so easily, why not go 6A13TT AWD mirage?

And I have seen plenty of big stereo's go int FTO's in my time.
I just had to add it ......

i love fwd will not go back to awd yes the 6a13tt will bolt in to the mirage but i don't think i would be able to get a 6a13tt engineered in a mirage but im loving the n/a sound and power the gpx puts out :) as for the 4g63t its a very expensive motor as you haft to use the newer model evo engine and parts for them are too expensive.

and there is a big difference between having a big system that sounds good and a system that just looks good lol

my fto still has plenty of rego still love driving so this is just something im thinking about

You can get a great system in a FTO mine fit in like a dream you can fit dual shallow 12inch subs behind the rear strutt bar and amps are easily mounted under the driver and passenger seats just about how much your willing to spend. thats the only factor.

also those cars are getting on in age now,
not to rain on your parade but the 6A12 doesnt put that much power out compared to a more modern engine.

If your looking at transplating you're gonna run in to a lot of issues and with engines and cars that old is it really worth it?

if thats what you want to do then sure, go for it its been done before but be prepared to kiss a lot of money goodbye!

google 6A12 Mirage, theres plenty of them

You can get a decent sound out of the FTO, Matt just did mine and f**k me it sounds good, running pioneer splits with sony tweeters (not xplod lol) in the front, spartan kicker rears, kicker 12" shallow sub and a JBL 4 channel amp and Kicker mono in the boot with a capacitor running it all, sounds amazing and i was able to fit everything in the boot no worries - looks decent too
    http://ftoaustralia.com/v3/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=25171
If only you were in Brisbane, matt could wire it all in i could make a custom boot setup.

Which does remind me - anyone who IS in Brissie and wants a custom install, shoot a pm through :D

i dont know why you's are saying there is a lot of cash involed in doing this for such a small gain and that there an old car :? you can pick up a 2002 mirage for only a couple grand. i already have my fto which is a manual gpx mivec everything is a straight bolt in its just a matter of swapping everything over. the mirage is 255kg lighter then fto and the mirage has stock has 69kw WOW lol. as you know the fto puts out 150kw and has a bucket load more torque the the mirage so how is that such a small gain?

i wasnt saying its a sh*t idea, if u want to do it to make you happy then do it... its been done loads of times before we all know its possible...

but to chuck a 15 year old engine (ROR @150kw) in even a 2002 mirage seems a bit fruitless if your gonna do it for any 'serious' gain... for sh*ts and giggles - fk yeah do it!

I prefer mirage over proton. But each to their own.

Mirage 6a12 has been done a fair few times so just do some research and you should find some decent information on it.

If you like big audio setups, and the FTO's boot space is not sufficient, then just buy the Mirage. You obviously don't care about handling or speed if you're wanting to dump all that sound gear in the rear, so just bypass the performance part altogether.
