Nah the oil actually weeps out of the studs on the manifold. So in my case it was not the cam seals.Rob Furniss wrote:I will be taking the plenum off soon so will check the plugs then, rocker seals are ok.
I'm reckoning camshaft seal but hard to know without taking covers off, guess I should get on with it and sort the problem out.

94 gpx need gearbox change.? and engine oil leaking someway
Bit on the steep side I'm pretty sure?
Far out my mechanic only charged $50 or so for steering rack boots and that was fitting and the cost of the part
And yours is $125
The timing belt kit they got was $260? Mine was $160 and that was fitting aswell (my engine was out mind you)
My waterpump wasnt too much either
Tie rod end boots cost them $125 to? Far out
But if you're happy with their work that's all that matters I guess but I'm just saying
I paid $2150 all up he sourced all parts too. and that was labor to remove 1 engine fully service a new engine with a timing belt kit, water pump, steering rack boots. Cv boots (all), bracketed my pod, oil and oil filter, all other oils and liquids, any radiator o ring, new rear brake pads, Roadworthy, and then he put the engine back in. Oh and that $2150 is including the 4 tows I used through him at $88 a pop

Glad your problems are fixed.
Some strange things on there though:
Says they have removed your head to replace some seals?
Also done your timing belt but not charged labour for it? I need mine doing so if they don't charge labour for that then I might give them a call, or maybe they were just being generous? (I was quoted $1200 for the timing belt parts and labour so going to do it myself)
Rocker cover gaskets seem very expensive too.
At the end of the day though if all is good and you are happy then that's cool.

Definitely a rip imo. Doesn't take 3-4 hours to change your steering/tie rod boots. It's a half hour job really.
7 hours for timing belt change they charged. They charged you way over rrp for everything except the waterpump, so they probably left it hahah.
Carmen scan tool I do not believe does MUTII??

Re: 94 gpx need gearbox change.? and engine oil leaking som
I missed the timing belt charge.
How come i've been quoted $1200 for parts and labour to replace mine?
I used to pay £270 in the UK so about $400 but that was a place that did a lot of FTO work and did it in about 1/2 day, they also only charge £35 per hour ($53 per hour roughly so I guess that adds up).

If it's a major service then it will include other servicing parts.Rob Furniss wrote:I missed the timing belt charge.

Timing belt kit is $300
Water pump $150
6 hours labor at $100 an hour in Australia plus oils etc is about right? To get to the water pump more parts need to be removed eg, power steering pump so it's basically all labor.
