3rd and final

Post by Sahin »

So I bought my manual gpx on Christmas eve body was in great nick interior was immaculate nothing was wrong with it (so I thought) so I was driving it home and on the way home I just all of a sudden lose power steering I was like wtf but just kept going anyway and then about a k later I lost all power and car just slowed to a halt on the main road pulled over to the left and called a tow truck :( wasn't a cheap tow as you could imagine on Christmas eve and after hours but anyway 20 mins and $500 later it got home. The next day I went out and bought the belts I needed which were torn off got home and went to put them on only to realize I had nothing to put them on my aircon compressor pulley and tensioner pulley were no longer there and my harmonic balancer was all wobbly and needed replacing so anyway I hit up Dwayne for a new tensioner pulley and second hand harmonic balancer and so a couple of days pass and I still needed an aircon compressor so I was asking everyone then all of a sudden I see this blue gpx on eBay for 2500 so I called him up and talked for a while all in all I talked the guy down to 1500 so I contact taz coz I knew he needed a shell and we both go look at it and it's all good nice car for the price. So we tow it to my house and I get the aircon compressor I needed off it and put it on my black one along with the new tensioner pulley then after a couple of days I get it towed to my mechanic and he went to put on the new harmonic balancer and he couldn't coz the keyway was fucked and along with the crankshaft so that moter was rooted so I thought f**k it I'll just put the engine out of the wreck into the black FTO as all it needed was a timing belt and water pump so I tow it to my mechanic and he looks at it and turns out all the valves are bent and everything inside was fucked so now I have to buy another engine possibly the one out of brads wreck so this better be the last engine I ever buy lol oh the joys of having an FTO :)

Sucks mate
Unfortunately this seems to be a common theme, FTOs are quickly becoming one of "those" cars, money-drainers.
They are still a beautiful car to look at and drive, so if you still love them then don't give up.
Ask Ben how many horror stories he has had, same with silver, and even iv got a couple issues with mine I haven't been able to fix. (and iv dumped almost 2k into it trying to fix it!)
They are bastards... beautiful, wonderful, bastards!

The only reason I still have mine is because of those moments when you walk out to your car, or see it in your driveway, or start is up, and all you can do is smile.
Those moments are what keep car-lovers poor!

Sorry, I would read, but wall of text.

Meanwhile from replies seems as though you have 2 options, fix it, or ditch it.
Toss a coin, that's what I do.

This:
I thought f**k it I'll just put the engine out of the wreck into the black FTO as all it needed was a timing belt and water pump

Would leave me to assume this:
so I tow it to my mechanic and he looks at it and turns out all the valves are bent and everything inside was fucked

Sucks to hear about all the problems your having. As the fto continues to age, this kind of this is becoming more common unfortunately :?

Grab an engine that is running this time, as opposed to one that is not. That way you will have less unpleasant surprises.
