Some small queries

Post by Daniel2019 »

Hey guys, I bought my new (used) 1995 FTO GPX about a month ago, so far its been perfect apart from some small things. Firstly, there are some cracks around the gear stick and around my stereo. I have tried using superglue, which held for a few days but ultimately failed, and about a week ago I used silicon which closed up the cracks mostly and held it together, however it seems to be slightly loose again. I have noticed that it seems to be a common problem, and was wondering if anybody knew the best way to fix it? Pics below.

Secondly, I was washing it today and I opened up the hood to clean some stuff up and refill some things, (general maintenance, I dont know much about cars/engines however am eager to learn) and after taking the engine casing off, I noticed that underneath was dirt and grime which seems to be stuck on - it wont come off with rubbing it with a rag, wet or dry. Solutions? Thanks guys :D

Hey mate, welcome to the club :)

And you're missing the sliding tab that goes under the tip lever!

Both of those busted plastic parts (known on this forum as the 'floor console' and 'centre/stereo console') are quite common to break. In fact, extremely common.

Second hand ones are just as likely to break & be old & brittle as the ones you have there, so one of our members 'dstocks' gets them in new from Japan. Send him a pm, he may even have stock from the last shipment.

The stuff on your engine is just aluminium oxidation. The only real way to get that off it to buff it off with metal polish or similar. Having said that, it's not critical, it wont hurt the engine.

Tip seems to be working well for me, guessing its not a major issue? :D

Any idea on prices for them? Also, is DIY installation/replacement difficult? - Im a bit of a dud  I'll be sure to give him a PM, thanks.

I was doing a big clean and was just trying to get her as well cleaned as possible, even though nobody will ever see it, just thought It'd be nice to do a complete clean of absolutely everything :D

Also just comes to mind, I put new Sony xplod speakers in the back, and wanted to put some in the front too, do you have any idea how to get the inside door panel off? There doesnt seem to be a release, even after taking the screws out it wont budge :(

Gotta take the cup out from behind the door lever, there's another big screw in behind there, then pop off the big cap just below the main handle itself. There's a screw in there too.
