[quote="kazbah"]As much as I hate to use the Yanks for any example - if the pollies are serious about driver safety why not do what the Yanks do and teach driving in schools! It seems pretty simple to me, as part of your driving training requirements before you get your licence you must have undertaken driving training in school..... quote]
Just clarify my point on driver training in school - I was refering to practical training, ie defensive driving as well as theory. Theory is great but if you want to get a point across hands on is better. Actually now that I think of it - does anyone think it would be beneficial during this course to show kids videos of actual car accidents, ie fatal ones. Not necessarily all the blood and gore but the carnage that the ambos and police have to clean up after some stupid dick decided they could drive like Senna - who by the way was killed while racing on a track. Just a thought...

Hi Kazbah, I just want to say that I understand that cars are deadly weapons and that driving like a tool is dangers and I don't. But I also belong to a local CAMS car club and race when I can under controlled condition. Now as a race fan and I know a little about Senna death I jsut wanted to ask you to be a little careful with what you say, the corner Senna Died on was very bad and was redesigned after the accidnet I think. I think some poeple might feel a little offended my your meaning. I know I was a little. I'm not trying to start anything and I know motorsport is very dangers. But I also know I always hold my breath when I see a bad crash and feel for the family and friends. Ie, Possum Bourne's accident last year. Sorry if this post is offended or arguementive. It was not my intention.kazbah wrote: Not necessarily all the blood and gore but the carnage that the ambos and police have to clean up after some stupid dick decided they could drive like Senna - who by the way was killed while racing on a track. As a side note, what caused Senna's death was neither the track (corner) nor his driving skills, rather it was an aerodynamic feature on the car (relating to ground effect), which the F1 governing body has since outlawed.
I don't think Kazbah meant any disrespect, but I do agree with her that letting them see some stuff like this could help, but no so much race car accidents rather it should be road fatalities.

As a P Plater myself, I think that these laws would not have any effect at all for 1. The young people that do stupid acts on the road will not abide by them in the first place. Thus they will still drive and still have bad accidents.
2. Once again it is a small majority that reck it for every other P Plater out there which is not fair. It’s not like every P’ Plater out there, goes on a crazy rampage every night trying to kill themselves. As it is only a small majority that are “Hoonsâ€

I think I may have worded that wrong. What I meant was that Senna was a highly skilled driver and was killed while racing under what are more or less controlled conditions, well as controlled as far as driving at high speeds can ever be. I never meant to insinuate that Senna was at fault and like you I hold my breath whenever any driver or rider for that matter comes undone on the track. What I was trying to say was that "some" people may look at these guys and think that controlling a car at high speeds is the same as controlling it at normal speeds.RallyMad wrote:Hi Kazbah, I just want to say that I understand that cars are deadly weapons and that driving like a tool is dangers and I don't. i was thinking about something which isnt put into the equation when determining which age group are the best/safe drivers!
Generally the older you are the more safe you are right? Less accidents?
Well think about it, do the older generation 50+ on average spend as much time on the roads as say a 20 year old? I doubt it.
I believe putting the blame on inexperience alone isnt right? I find if you factor in time spent of road, the younger drivers, shoudnt be a dangerous as been put out?
what ya reckon?

Honestly, I think some P Platers doesn't get much road time experience except for a quick drive to a friends house/to school, etc.
Not many P platers drive long distances day in day out.
Hell, I've been driving 400 city/suburb kms plus per week since I got my license and I'm still correcting things =)
Even driving that much when I was a P plater, I still think my driving was pretty torrid when I look back at it.
One thing I think about a lot when I'm driving on the roads is . . . people are always following behind cars way too close. And that's everyone . . .
