Did a little bit of testing with the camera today with the car in the garage.
Most of the video modes are 135 deg fov (field of view), including the mode I had planned to use, 720p 60fps. It's clear that 135 deg is way too wide. The image is too far away and shows slight curving.
The only video mode that is not 135 deg is 1080p 30fps, which is 111 deg. This appears to be much better and shows the entire windscreen in view from my mounting point on the roll cage cross bar. Need to get it on track to know fully how good this will be though.
Sound looks promising, the mic gain adjustment looks like I should be able to find a setting that gives good sound, again though this is something that needs to be tested on track at full noise.
All in all though a big improvement on my existing incar camera, the MD80. This will now be used on the rear bumper, and I bought a second one which will go on the front bumper.
Just need to get back out to the track now for a play
