Custom Intake

Being so pleased with my new $28 pod i think the next step right now is to fiddle with the pipe.
I am going to relocate the battery to the boot (been meaning to do this for a while now ) and use the space left for a nice pipe, instead of the ridiculous bendy restrictive small stock pipe.
Was wondering how many people have done this - and where they got their materials from, whether im going to have to source a decent pipe myself and cut/fit it etc or if there is a specific one out there thats already to size/relative length etc that some company has made or if someone could reply with the pipe they have used.(just trying to save myself a couple of hours here)
I also want a decent box while im at it, and was wondering for all those vets out there what is the best way to do this (what material specifically, and how to mould/join it) and a nice heat shield between the box and hot radiator pipe/side of engine -again whats the best material and way of mounting something like this, surely someone has done a proper job?
Half of this is for dress i guess, want it to look pretty sexy, not just some crappy piece of acryllic and a bodgy home job pipe about to come off
I guess if i get enough interest and its easy enough ill make a a few of them and sell em as a diy kit thingymabobby, we will see how we go

I did spend about 10min trolling through the search function, but i gave up as there was no real results that were useful - threw too many unrelated results back at me

Eh, what i was reading wasnt really helpful to me that much as im intending on doing something a little different on mine, and none really state exactly which pipe, source, pod etc etc
I intend on relocating the battery to free up the whole RHS, then instead of the 2 bend pipes you see on most cars as they havent relocated battery, it till be a slight bend to go into the engine but straight coming from the box, on a diagonal in reference to the car, and will be made out of MDF with some extra help reflecting the heat. I will also be taking advantage of the no fog lights, and running a pipe from the front bar hole (where fog lights usually are, the far rhs hole) to the box, then straight with a slight bend to the engine. still figuring a few things out to make this a good job, and not just a custom one off bodge job that does the job.
Just got to get off my ass and source a good pipe, measure a few things and relocate the battery and ill start fiddling with box designs and measurments as it looks like fun to design around all the sh*t that snakes around the stock box.
Rambling aside, depending on whether i do it at home, or get my guy to do it hopefully it will be simple enough to make a dozen or so and put em up for sale (although it will be specifically for those who have relocated their battery)
Is anyone interested in said box once its operational? i guess more interest now gives the duplicates a better chance down the road.

I relocated the battery and fitted a weapon-R CAI. Then i have the RAM pipe which goes from the pod and to the front bumper.
As for a heat box etc etc....I made it out of the windscreen heat shield things. Cut it all up and used heavy duty double sided tape to hold it all together. Doesn't look too bad :=s haha

Not really. The only bend it will have is a less than 45 to go into the throttle body, otherwise a straight pipe, leading into the box. I hope to god its not going to look like that carbon one, but something similar.
Ive got the picture in my head how its going to look lol, guess ill just have to make it and post pics rather than trying to explain it.

As for the topic, you are talking about making the box literally next to the manifold yes? In which case you will need minimal piping.

Got the car up on a hoist today and really looked at my options with the inlet at the front.
I can either run it off the far rhs hole where fog lights usually are, but it would run into a container which i would have to relocate.
The other option which i would much rather do over the small 80mm hole is to run a big 125mm carbon intake ring on the rhs of the centre hole where the denser/radiator is etc, but i would have to sacrifice a/c denser, and purchase a slimmer radiator (radiators is another thing i dont jack sh*t about - will i still need the fans on the backside of it? are there ones that dont require them somehow? f**k this sounds like a such an obvious noob question right now)
If so i can run a pipe directly to a custom box which will then run into the throttle body.
Pretty much decided to make a custom carbon box as i can get a nice DIY carbon kit from carbon mods for about 50GBP and custom make it myself. (if i make a mould of the box then it will be easy to reproduce them) and ill be laughing.
There doesnt look to be much room to run a 100mm pipe anywhere else, so im hoping theres a way round it without hacking at my front bar (which even then looks like ti wont really help much)
If you guys have any ideas feel free to let me know, ive ordered the carbon kit today so when it arrives ill relocate the battery after that and start the project.
Was also looking at the stock intake pipes to the box as well. Long snaking pipe that varies in size and width all over the show to a chamber just in front of the denser with no way of air to freely flow into the chamber (also its facing sideways?) Such a stupid setup when you think about it, yes its probably the BEST way of placing it, but a few VERY minor changes to 1 panel and they could of run a direct pipe like i plan to do.
Im hoping to gain 5-10 net with my setup over stock with the piping/box/shield etc etc but it wont really make a difference till i tune for it - will be interesting i might even dyno the before and after if its cheap enough

There would be no point, and i probably wouldnt be able to. The stock piping bends at 90 deg or more numerous times in confined spaces, changes siziing all over the place and runs through about 3/4 of a metre of piping before it gets to the box which could be 20-30cm if i do mine right.
Just emailed rpw for dimensions on the pwr radiator, ive figured out if i can get a hold of a <630mm long one i can just run the pipe right past it, literally straight to the box (discluding the slight elbow to go into the box straight if it comes to that)
Would then just have to order a 125mm carbon intake ring, make the carbon box, and run the pipes, which will be easy once everything else is made.

Just had a shopping spree on siliconeintakes.com - just got a 4-3" 60deg reducer for the throttle body, 4" straight aluminum pipe (1') to go the box directly, a 45deg mandrel aluminum pipe to go from the intake ring to the box, and a 5-4" reducer to match the pipe to the ring.
Just waiting on everything to arrive, scrounge some money for a battery relocation and some time to fit this whole thing together.
Piping came in at 70, carbon to make the box at 80ish, intake ring at 70ish, battery relocation been quoted at about 400-450ish for a nice professional job w/ everything supplied by them.
Radiator will be dependant, but could be anywhere from 4-800.
All up its looking like 620-670ish plus whatever the radiarot is going to cost.
At the end of the day i get a new radiator and battery relocation out of it to justify it somewhat, and the fact i wont need to scrap the whole setup entirely when i swap out (im sure ill be able to salvage most parts - least the expensive ones)
It will look amazing and hopefully net me 5-10 ish heres hoping but not friggin likely though
After that (or most likely before its all completed) is the 58" carbon wing. Then i might do some carbon wrap on a few interior items/possibly boot/mirrors if i feel like it, get the new stereo in and alter the custom setup in the boot now i have a battery in there (probably wear the cost of a new battery while im at it actually) and then nothing till the awd convo which will be before the 4g sometime next year (hopefully first 1/2)

Actually, there is no other viable way to run a pipe from the front without moving it. After closely inspecting the stock air system i refuse to use it any longer.
This is also going to be used for my inevitable conversion as well, which will be required with the plans i have in store for it.
If your going to do nothing but trash this post with your unnecessary negative crap, dont bother and post it somewhere else, as it is certainly unwelcome here
