exhaust warning light...

hi

i have this exhaust light on when the car is idle and basically if my speed is below 55km

if im above 55km cruising that light just goes away and as soon as i slow down again it lights back on

do you know what is wrong with my exhaust ? can anything be done?

is the light you are talking about an orange one with the pic of a cat converter on it?
I think it is the cat temp sensor warning light?
doesn't explain why it is coming on though.

I would think this light would just be warning you that the cat is hot, as the get during use and not to pull up on dry grass etc. Which may catch on fire. Then again if nobody else is getting this then there must be a problem somewhere causing the exhaust to overheat? I wouldn't know how big of a porblem that would be though

yeah
well i find it a bit strange its only when i drive below 50km/h
the light stays on other wise any speed above 50km/h the light goes away

don't know much about cats, but if it is getting hot there must be something internally wrong unless your motor is running hot, dumping fuel into the exhaust or the cat/exhaust is damaged/restricted causins a backlog of hot gasses.
Could even be the sensor or a loose wire hey?

Maybe getting it checked out by a good mechanic may be a good idea. I think from the posts here at least it seems no one is sure what it could be and it could be that your cat might need replacing or may not. Maybe just the sensor is blocked or something?! Sorry, and good luck
