A day of interestingness! Opinions please

Post by Valandis91 »

Well where to start...

Today I decided to have a look at tweaking my car a bit more.
First stop was an exhaust shop..
Exhaust Set Up.jpg
Exhaust Set Up.jpg (28.56 KiB) Viewed 1541 times
The pic on the left is currently how the rear section of my exhaust is set up.
This is very noisy (too much attention for my liking) as its a small muffler and lets be honest its not set up that well...

The pic on the right is the proposed new muffler and rear section set up.
This is a custom made larger muffler made to suit the dimensions of that area to maximise
noise reduction while not hindering flow. Will look a lot tidier and be cheaper as not as many unnecessary bends everywhere.
Still waiting on the quote to get this done but I'm liking the look of it a lot more than my current one.
But he will be making use of most of the mandrel bends and etc already being used so should be a bit cheaper.

Oh and I'm getting a track pipe made as well

Next stop was coffee :)

Then was to Bridgestone to sort out the wear issues I'm having with my rear.
Wheel Alignment was the port of call from them to see if they can see whats wrong.

Below is the sheet with my current set up:
Image

Now as you see my rear is pretty messed up...
Right side is maxxed out at -0.3 and the left is pulled in all the way but sits at -1.7
According to these guys there is no way to align the rear any better...
The left wheels shoulder is almost bald due to the amount of camber!
Apparently if the control arm or as such was bent it would be quite obvious so the only answer is that the chassis is bent

Not the best news I've heard.
Went to a chassis straightening place to see their oppinion and they said it would cost $200 for them to measure it up and
see how much out it is and then the cost can only be figured out from there depending on how bad it is...
Would this be worth it? They said at most it could cost around $800 so im thinking i should...

Opinions muchly appreciated! Thanks

Just wondering, would that exhaust be efficient ?? I thought because the flow came in on that side, the air would continue going that way and not do a small turn around to go out the left outlet ?? does that make sense?

Kinda like this below?

Oh and while it was on the hoist i noticed that my rear sway bar was on the hole furthest from the D link.
Meaning that currently its only acting as a 21mm sway bar.
I might move it to the hole closest to the d link cos then its a 23mm

It's explained well here

Is that 2 pipes going in or 2 pipes going out? and why for either? the rear muffler should be a single pipe going in and a single pipe going out. That looks a mess.

I'd say the inability to adjust your rear end is probably due to the washers being rooted and the wheel alignment technician not having the intelligence to recommend replacing them. Honestly though adjusting the rear end of our cars is a massive pita!

You could try a set of Megan Racing adjustable rear arms, like I bought for the racecar, and still haven't fitted or tested

It's one pipe in and two out. I like the quad exhaust look...

It makes sense though what they said about it having a big hit... Cos one side is in and the other is out...
Ill see what happens when i mention the washers.

How much were they again?

Looks like they don't sell the washers only any more.

Re the muffler, I reckon u'd be better off with single in / single out with the out then splitting to twins.

Yeah still split them, but split them after the muffler, rather than in the muffler.

i think shane meant, a 'Y' shape from muffler, instead of muffler with two exits,, its a muffler with one exit, that splits into two seperate exits

I'd leave it eaxctly how it is, thats the correct way to do it to keep optimum flow.

+1 to what stef said.

It looks like the left side is meant to be the 2 exits and the right side is the one inlet so you could imagine... but one of the left side exits is used as an inlet and the original 'supposed' inlet on the right is being used as an outlet... Then the exhaust gasses would really only flow towards the right side... making the bottom left side exit, almost useless, or maybe just for looks...

Unless of course the muffler is ACTUALLY designed the way valandis described...

^ +1

After swapping and changing around resonators, id be running at least the main one on the straight section of pipe in the center of the car.

Get an active tail silencer?
Apexi have some for about $165
You would have to go 1-1 though, not 1-2 (or i think you can just put one in each chamber?) Would do exactly what your after.
