FTO vs Tiburon

I need some reassurance.

I really like the GPX FTO however I also like the idea of a Tiburon.

Tiburon
Pros
Better/up to date interior
Newer car for similar price
Easier/cheaper parts

Cons
Exterior not as good looking.
Handling not as good?

My understanding is they have similar pulling power, FTO has more outright Power & lighter car but Tiburon has more Torque.

Please convince me the FTO is the better choice.
I understand this is a personal thing but I thought you would add some more info to make my choice easier.

The interior of the FTO still looks quite good. I woulldnt have thought that the Tiburon would be any better. Its a little bland I admit as its all black, but a little CF highlighting makes a world of difference.

One of the best things about the FTO is it is fun to drive. Handling for its age is fantastic. In my case, every time I get into my FTO it puts a smile on my face. Ive owned a twin turbo AWD Legnum wagon and thats got many of the suspension components off the EVO Lancer. My FTO out handled it even though it was FWD and was more pleasing to drive. Remember newer does not necessarily mean better and these days parts arent too bad to source. I provide a good percentage of parts to club members. All you need to do is make sure you buy one in good condition and you wont look back.

    My current mechanic (brothers father) absolutely hates tiburon's.
    Not sure why but im assuming its because theyre just a bitch in general to maintain/fix from a mechanic's point of view. He is not too keen on mine either but he has done major work to both and prefers the FTO :lol:
    Whether this affects anything at all, just saying.
    Just might mean you get a slightly higher price for fixing as people dont like to touch them :lol:

    And yes, FTO rules all, everything else is rubbish, inc RX8's....

    The newer Tiburon's have a bored out 6A12 (non mivec) so i would imagine it would have more power and more torque,(though wiki says bhp is about even) as for handling, id say theyd be on par, i looked at buying one a couple of years back but just couldnt get over the excentric body styling

    Where on earth did you read/hear that? Places I look says the V6 model use Hyundai's own G6BW and G6BA

    Speaking as someone who's driven one.
    They aren't all that bad.
    Apart from cheap plastics that make a bit of noise when you put the car in a corner, they're a decent drive.

    Having said that, they're no more cheaper or easier to work on than an FTO.
    Reliability they are on par, they do run bits of Mitsubishi equipment, I believe at one point they were running the GTO v6 motor NA form. Haven't heard of then using the 6a12 however.
    The codes Hyundai give the engines are simply for them, they do run other manufacturers wares, especially back then when they were climbing the hill to make a name for themselves. These days much different.

    I'd personally prefer the FTO, I'm probably slightly biased, for the dollar, you can't go wrong with an FTO, if you want something different, as I see more FTOs these days than Tibs, then go the Korean.

    They don't run the 6G72 and never did. Some other Hyundais did though, the Grandeur uses the 6G72 even though I think they call it their Sigma engine. To be honest I've considered before whether their D engine (the 2.7 Tiburon engine) is a 6A1X engine even though I think they are not as the 2.7 has an 86.7mm bore which I think the 6A1X engine could never accommodate (Bennoz, any input?).

    Personally I think you should consider what you want from the car. I think the Tiburon would be a better "easy" drive, ie, quieter, softer, more low end torque etc, and at the same time considering the larger displacement it'd be more responsive to modification. Certainly the aftermarket could not be any worse for it than for the FTO.

    What is your budget? There are plenty of decent cheap cars out there

    Sorry, should have clarrified that in my post.
    Didnt mean the Tiburon had the 6G72, I meant Hyundai were using that motor at some point in time.

    Ultimately it will come down to driving them but I just wanted to see if anyone had heard anything about them, i.e. reliability etc.

    I want a car that is a fun ride and looks nice. I don't really want to do anything major to the car (i.e. no engine mods) but would update interior if needed. The FTO fits the bill but I'm concerned about its age and its appropriateness. I am a scientist, have a son and am 27. Both my wife and father think the FTO is more appropriate as a weekend fun car and not a work car where as they believe the Tiburon is more "respectable" and work appropriate, it also has a bigger boot which will be handy for baby transport. But then who listens to their wife.

    A 4 door sedan/hatch would fix my baby issue but damn it man I want a car I love & I don't love 4 door sedans yet.There's a lot of personal problems above but I'm just highlighting what I primarily want from the car.

    My budget is around 10,000, but unless its perfect I'd expect to pay less for an FTO and slightly more for Tiburon.
    Also the Tib is 6 speed man, would that make a better drive than 5 speed or just annoying?

    You take the rear wing off the FTO, they look more 'respectable'.
    It all comes down to personal preference, the FTOs back seat is of surprising size, and rather decent for a coupe, however the Tibs is slightly larger again due to the vehicle itself being larger.
    Boot space on par with each other.
    Safety, can't comment, fuel economy can't comment, never drove them long enough.
    The FTO I believe is better on petrol, but it depends on your driving style and distance of drives, even still you can expect some good numbers from either car.

    Pros for the Tib would be they were a local car, so parts will be slightly easier to attain, also can go straight to a stealership for off the bat parts.
    Cons for the Tib, Korean, build quality not as great, not as peppy to drive, heavier steering.

    You're on an FTO site, so you have a tonne of threads for why they're good and bad...

    Seems like you've already made your decision.

    The reason for your post is to get reassurance for the said decision. We can point out the good things about the FTO, despite which, if you still choose to go with the a Tiburon, then your doubts have been rectified and you'll feel 100% about your preference.

    My advice is, don't look for reassurance here. It's obvious what you are leaning towards and I'm not going to give you a biased comment, but rather I'll say go with the Tiburon.

    from what i understand Hyundai bought the 6A12(?) plans and built there 2.7
