No necessary, you're just not giving us the right info.

Ask one of the QLD to go take a look at it with you. Don't rush into this, honestly.

Tamam, so it's a GR.

Has it been serviced regularly?
Does it have any bubbles in the paint on the roof?
Does the interior look warn? Does it look like it's done 85,000km's (that's a low amount of k's for a car of it's age).
Has it had a cam belt replaced recently?

He told me 2ce for the last 1 yr before that it was in japan. I dunno what timing belt is and where it is located at but ill ask him.
Btw i went with my aunt and she said it is clean car without any damage on it.
It had 2 big bubbles with diameter of 1cm near sunroof...

hmmm. Take Taz with you for a second look but I'd probably stay away from this one.

Bubbles indicate roof rust which can be costly and a pain in the arse to fix.

I'm not surprised his insurance says Mivec, it doesn't sound like he know's what the hell he's driving. I wouldn't go off that.

Did you get the letters after it as well?
DE3A 0013396................
What that tells us is it's a V6 and year ( looks to be a 96) and some of the options it has, but there is no info to tell if it's GR or GPX.

Yea so we went and had a look. Its a 96 GR, dont know why papers say its a GPX
First impressions werent nice, car was very filthy on the outside, and there was the split on the front bar, the moulding was split, but the metal bar or whatever inside the plastic was fine, nothing a bit of prefab cant fix fits back together nice and no paint chips on it - still.
Roof rust is evident. quite a lot of it too, some is just paint bubbling near the top of the windscreen but there was more right by the sunroof, but not in the crevaces etc - not sure if thats going to be easier.
Sunroof didnt work - apparantly he got a quote for a few hundred to fix it - didnt bother asking about it.
As far as the engine itself goes, the engine bay was clean (not like wiped down clean but clean as far as bays usually go) there was no signs of rust, obvious wear and tear beyond acceptable, sounded like it ran well, idled fine and didnt overheat or get up to working temp too quickly/slow.
Few very minor scrapes and scratches around the place like on the top of the skirts that had been touched up but not very well.
Had aftermarket alloys from i dont know where, had some brand on them but were pretty old, could see the usual rusting on the discs between them.
All in all is a good car as far as the engine and the care for it goes, but the body was pretty s**t, needs a lot of work done to be able to get up to standard (imo - didnt seem to phase sarp that much)
He is more concerned about the engine and running of the car over the body work. He is looking for the cheapest reasonable fto he can find, so its not really ideal that he wants to spend an extra few k on something already mint/gpx etc
He doesnt plan to eventually do anything performance wise he just wants good daily drive and if the body was in better shape id say by all means its a good buy for 6.2
At this stage, its best if he knows how much the front bar and sunroof and rust near it goes and the RWC to say the car is all clean and running well before he does anything further. i would also offer 6 instead of 6.2 seems a little high for what it is. It is also registered in VIC so he will need to change that over - another negative on the list.
Im just concerned that he might go and get this car and there may be more negligent things wrong with it that a RWC or initial inspection wont find that can only be found with time. but it seems ok. Stock as a rock and sensibly driven (so it seems)
Unless he can find another fto for 6k with nothing wrong with it this i guess is *grits teeth* acceptable but definitely not ideal.
Awaiting RWC to progress this further.
Also, if someone who has had experience/quotes please advise on a rough cost of this sunroof repair and paint bubbling.
Probably something i missed but im sure a member here will point this out.
oh and belt n pump havent been replaced (not surprising but would of been nice) and idled fine nothing wrong with stepper (i know this is a common thing is it not?)

Sarp - djjones has a good looking gpx for sale in NSW for 5500 - check it out in the for sale section, might be better way to go i think. work out the same after fuel costs etc and im sure a few respected members here can vouch for him. Looks clean and is a lot more bang for buck for cheaper - my recommendation has now changed to this after looking at it :D

god i have to learn the process to transfer registration to another state. i suppose that would cost me another thousand of dollars?
It is likely to be his not gonna pay the transfer fees etc... so that I would not accept the deal and he would try to find someone else(for his gr)
NSW one seems pretty good. Ill text him

there is no "transfer fees" or anything to swap it interstate. All you have to do is deregister the current registration (which you will be sent a cheque for the remainding rego on it anyway) and then re-register it which will be what you pay for rego when it is due. you will also have to pay stamp duty which i think is like 3.5% in QLD, so like 150 dollars which covers the cost of clerical fees n new plates etc which you have to pay regardless. will only cost you around 160ish for stamp duty, 430ish for 6 months rego.
its not a hard process, just annoying!
And yes, def's go for the djjones' one - a LOT better than the one we looked at!

I got my roof rust fixed (fully cut up and re-welded, resprayed) for $800.

Sunroof on the other hand. Probably broke a part and missing it now, up to finding that part (very unlikely, talk to dstocks).

Id walk away.
