new in oz need help about park permit and buyin used car
hey guys i m sarp from turkey. just came to oz n got some questions.
i ll start with parking
On brisbane city council web site they listed down the regions where you can apply for park permits however kelvin grove is not listed* but I have seen many cars in kelvin grove that are parking with P label on their car. I wonder if I can apply for one or else how am I gonna park on the street?
* http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/traffic- ... /index.htm
since anyone can be member of this site anyone can list a used fto which is about to break down. so how should i check if user is liable? and if i decided so. what are the steps to get a used car including checking if car has any debts etc...
thanks

Re: new in oz need help about park permit and buyin used car
Hi Sarp
If you are referring to these:

Then these are not displayed for parking reasons, they are for new drivers on the road.
Unless you have street signs stating that a parking permit is required, then it is not needed.
Hope that helps and is the right answer you are looking for.
Someone else I'm sure could help with your 2nd question.

Any suburb 5ks from the city has a 2hour parking limit. It may not have a sign on the street but will have one when you enter the surub. You will need to contact either your local council or maybe Queensland transport.

Re: new in oz need help about park permit and buyin used car
So I met with the seller got Vin number made check its all clear no stolen no encumbrance, but it did not have any odo meter history. not quite sure whether it has some changes on odometer.
Anyway the seller does not know if car is GP or gpx or gr. I ve got the engine number how am I supossed to check it? it starts with 6A12 but not sure if it is mivec or not.
So the car has Vic plate but he told me that he s gonna give me QLD plate so do I need to pay anything else? and the car is not under his name. its under his uncles name. So do we sign that the car has been sold in front of qld tmr officers or something else?
thanks for your helps

Re: new in oz need help about park permit and buyin used car
Easiest way to tell the differences i guess is check the seatbelt tag, if its pre 96 it aint a GP
If its mivec (get it past 5.5k rpm and you will know
) its going to be GPX, if not its either a GS or GR (if he doesnt know then its most likely NOT a mivec - it is REALLY hard not to know if you hit 5.5k rpm)
To distinguish between an GS and a GR if its a 4 cylinder its a GS, 6 cylinder its a GR.
If its a GP it should have the seats of a GP (GP had same seats as GPR didnt they? correct me if im wrong im just guessing here) - im sure you can find an image of them somewhere on here, usually blue bucket seats with FTO embroidered on them, they did come in other colours.
Hope that helps.

Re: new in oz need help about park permit and buyin used car
its 95 model
the place where i was testing was limited by 60kph and car is automatic so after 3k rpm it just shifts. I ve only got reg no, serial no, vin and engine no. I dont have chasis number...
BTW it was not sellers car it was his wifes car
I saw the engine it was unmodified silver coloured 6cyl engine with huge 2000 typing on it.

Have a look at the engine. If the oil cap is on the left then it's a GPX, if it's on the right, it's a GR.

If its 95 it aint a GP
Its either a GR or GPX
Cant think of anything distinguishable between the two apart from the mivec.
Its probably going to be a GR, i mean the owner would most likely notice it being mivec?
Im sure someone like Ben or Dwayne (Bennoz, Dstocks) will be able to help you if you cant get anymore info

You will tell in 1st gear and still be in the limits of the law
.
But if you can get it onto a freeway then you can rev out 2nd as well.
As AJ has said check the position of the oil cap. Also the engine cover will tell you if it's mivec or not.
A GR will have a cover over the plugs and the mivec will have a bigger cover.
Also if you can get the vin number we can tell you 100% what it is.

Re: new in oz need help about park permit and buyin used car
You could test first gear in a 60 zone, any other gear and you're going to be over 110km/h. And in first you can't notice Mivec anyway, you need to be in 3rd gear to notice the sound change (in my experience), and by then you're doing about 130km/h.sarp wrote:I dont remember that much that is all info that ive got. Where did you see this car advertised? Can you post a link to the advert? Can you get the seller to send you some pictures and then you post them here?
This whole deal sounds a bit dodgy to me and I'd probably walk away and look for a bit longer TBH.

Incorrect. Mine is a 4 speed auto and it has Mivec = GPX. Keep trying.sarp wrote:I ve realised something car was 4 speed automatic so it means it is not a GPX right?
