What should I do with my FTO?

Post by alekazam »

When I bought the Porche the idea was to have two cars; a fun car with great handling... the FTO, and a sensible family car... the Porche.

But we've had the Porche for a couple of months now and I jumped back into the FTO for a bit of a joy ride and to my horror, I hated it! It under stears, the suspension is to hard, and compared to the Porche it just too slow.

So I really don't see myself using it much in the future, but I still have an emotional attachment to it.. I've spent a lot of time and money loving it and making it as cool as I could.

I don't want to see it left on the roadside covered in dust and watch it succumb to the weather before my eyes, meanwhile costing me $700 a year in rego and parking.

The sensible option would be to sell it right? But I wonder if I should just let the rego run out, put a tarp on it and keep it til it becomes a classic. (My wife says; 'if you want a classic car, stop being such a pussy, sell it and buy a f**king classic car'.

Anyway, really appreciate your thoughts, maybe someone can suggest some options I haven't thought of yet?

I am in a similar situation as you. I have kept my first car (Lancer coupe with 6A12) mostly because I know it isn't worth much and it has sentimental value for me. At the same time I have 3 other cars.
Personally seeing as I owned the Lancer since new and it was my first car, I think I will keep it forever as a garage ornament at the least, and turn into a track car possibly.
I don't know how all this will pan out though, as with passing time I start thinking that it is stupid to hold onto such a car.

Thanks guys,

I think Spetz, you're right... the longer I keep her the more I'm going to be thinking... what the hell was I thinking?!
It's a romantic idea to hold onto it because you've got lots of memories but I might make the sensible choice and just keep the photo's.

My new question would be then:
Do you think I should try and sell it with the Mags exhaust, stereo etc, in it... or do I return it to stock; sell off the goodies and put a lot lower price on it.

Are modified FTOs harder to sell or take longer to move do you think...? now I've decided to sell it I'd like it NOT to be a painful drawn out experience, if you know what I mean.

I think it depends how much money/time you have.
You may get more cash by selling the good parts separate but if you have little time and don't care much for the cash (it may only be a few hundred more) then sell it as is.
I am not familiar with your car or your mods though so this is a fairly general statement

f**k Bro! If you can afford a Porsche, just sell it for whatever and be done with it. Then use the money you get for it for the next service on the Porsche.
