qld rwc woes
Hi all, just purchased a fto gpx mirvec in fairly good nick, but now the road worthy guy may be playing me.
He says, that the lights are illegal because they are the white/blue HID globes, didn't the fto come out that way and if so that would be standard equipment?
He said that pod air filters are illegal and the old box type has to go in (havn't got that). I think Pods are ok as long as they are braced and not loose, correct?
He said the indicators should auto cancel when steering wheel is turned back, I was told that the fto didn't have the self cancel on it from factory, correct or not? If not correct how to fix without pulling the whole steering wheel off.
He said the front rack mount is loose, is this a common problem?
He said that the engine leaks coolant after I overfilled the top up bottle, should the bottle have a overflow pipe that drains to under car?
Please answer soon because need to get it all together and on the road asap

dont quote me, but im 98% sure that pod filters are legal if braced (qld) and from what iv heard, its illegal to have hids if car didnt come stock with them? and i believe lawso answered that, my indicators on my gpx auto cancel hmmeltonfto wrote:Hi all, just purchased a fto gpx mirvec in fairly good nick, but now the road worthy guy may be playing me.

It was a factory option so I can't really answer that, it will be obvious if they are aftermarket though
He said that pod air filters are illegal and the old box type has to go in (havn't got that). I think Pods are ok as long as they are braced and not loose, correct?
The pod filter has to be fully boxed in and secure
He said the indicators should auto cancel when steering wheel is turned back, I was told that the fto didn't have the self cancel on it from factory, correct or not? If not correct how to fix without pulling the whole steering wheel off.
It does have to and that is an easy fix.
He said the front rack mount is loose, is this a common problem?
Front rack mount? Does he mean steering rack?
He said that the engine leaks coolant after I overfilled the top up bottle, should the bottle have a overflow pipe that drains to under car?
Unsure

The hids could be stock, but generally they are removed during compliance. He says, that the lights are illegal because they are the white/blue HID globes, didn't the fto come out that way and if so that would be standard equipment?
Not up on QLD regs, but generally unboxed pods are frowned apon.He said that pod air filters are illegal and the old box type has to go in (havn't got that). I think Pods are ok as long as they are braced and not loose, correct?
Not correct, they should auto cancel. Youll need a new indicator combo unit. They are different depending on if you have rear wipers. He said the indicators should auto cancel when steering wheel is turned back, I was told that the fto didn't have the self cancel on it from factory, correct or not? If not correct how to fix without pulling the whole steering wheel off.
Cant commentHe said the front rack mount is loose, is this a common problem?
There should be an overflow pipe coming out of the bottle, but its only about 20cm long (if that)He said that the engine leaks coolant after I overfilled the top up bottle, should the bottle have a overflow pipe that drains to under car?
Hope this helps

Re: qld rwc woes
If that's my silver fto then yes, it has an aftermarket HID.
Though HID does come as a factory option for FTO.
If by the book, the pod has to be fully boxed and secured as mentioned above.
But having said that, i passed the RWC with the un-boxed pod filter when i first bought that silver FTO.
The indicators should cancel itself. Mine is faulty.
Front rack mount loose? No idea here. I don't have problem with the steering.
The black hose (20cm long?) is the standard FTO overflow pipe connected to the coolant overflow tank.
Lastly, I would go for Kustom's advice.

Not me!!! If it's really my silver FTO.

Hiall, Good info back. Now the next, is how to repair or replace the indicator to self cancel as if I remember it has the rear wiper.
Phunkydude, no not you, it was another unwise who told us about the unself canceling indicators ex factory thingy.
Just another question is, the front light lenses are they sprayed with a clear coat and if so what's the tricks when they go bit cloudy/flaked and need redoing, only cosmetic really.
The rack was the steering rack mount on r/h, any torque setting known? (Not sure if the rwc guy was throwing a brumby in, as it steers ok to us.)
Another is what is the jacking points when using a trolly jack to lift whole of front or whole rear up.
Really the car is a real credit to the old owner, good to know there are some people that look after things.

Hey bud you will have to take the steering wheel of there is a notch on the back of the steer wheel that has to align in with the groove this is how when your steering is returned back to normal it cancels indicators off , also pods are legal if they are braced properly and doesn't move at all but it's not illegal , hid is legal if you don't go more then 6000k anymore falls under LO2 modification which requires a mod plate , if yours is white don't worry if you can't get a Rwc guy pm me I'll get you a Queensland transport Rwc guy that knows imports well

Rear Wiper units are not as common. I might actually have one though I think. Wont be able to look till tomorrow though.

Your pod filter doesn't have to be boxed, just needs to be properly braced so it has no play...

Point us to where it says that in the qld transport regulations?
CHRISTIANITY: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Re: qld rwc woes
I have combed the entire QLD mods guide and cannot find anything on induction systems...at all.
They outline everything else but intake....weird - but it does have the footnote that every minor/small modification (which im assuming a pod filter would fall under) is legal if you get it approved by an approved person (i would assume this means engineers approval) so i would say your safe if you carry around a piece of paper saying its all good.
Consequently i read up on steering wheel replacements and found out the GPvR can be fitted with a non-airbag wheel as it was an option in the earlier model GS' GR etc - correct me if im wrong
Also found out that a few things on the car would be illegal if they werent stock (im assuming thats why they get away with them)
As for the induction system, get an engineers certificate and carry it round with you, as long as you have it braced properly and a cop wants to have a go at you, you got a piece of paper saying it alright, dont see how you can get defected there?
Alternatively, get a nice custom box n heat shield for it, looks nice, is better and cops arent going to open it all up to see if the pod itself is technically in a box or not

It also states that i legally cant whack a set of 245 GTR wheels or fit a spoiler that dosent confine to the boot lid outline (even though it still confines to the limits of the cars width easily) - but that aint going to stop me
just thought id let you know if your thinking about these things

Re: qld rwc woes
Hi'all, well the pod question is causing all kinds of confusion up here in Bundy and is a point of debate now in most performance forums in QLD.
The latest is, looks like everybody is right but it all depends on who does the rwc and the local individual who pulls us over to have a look at our cars, you know, the guys with the flashy lights.
It is not written in stone but can be interpreted at any time on a whim it seems.
The rwc guys seem to be now saying as long as they can't see it when inspected, so bury the pod in a shield or box, as long as it is secured.
The boys in blue say yes they can write it up if it is "hanging out and all floppy" and/or the car may be a hooner, sounds like on the whim of the moment stuff. But much better in a box.
The "tranny guys" said secure the pod in a box just in case there is a back fire and it catches fire, so that is another angle they are talking, fire hazard.
We are going to secure the pod put it in a removable box so it can't be seen from the top.
Question to all, is there any grease points that need to be greased on the FTO?
Still waiting for the trolly jack lift points info, (too low to get under,we are bigger than japs here and too low to go up on standard ramps and we just don't have a hyd hoist in our shed. It's so low mice don't run under it.jk
Cheer all
