What does an import compliance plate look like and where?

Post by Rob Furniss »

Just been to look at an FTO but I couldn't see a compliance plate in the engine bay that I recognised, only like a thin strip of metal with a number stamped on it on the strut mount, could this be it or could it be somewhere else or aren't they needed?
The car is registered in WA until Jan 2012.

If the plate is no longer there am I safe anyway as the car is registered?
Paperwork is a bit lacking as her ex ripped it up.

Here's a pic of the engine bay

It's a green or purple sticker normally found in one of two places, engine bay or door arches.

Me and a few other FTO owners i kow all have a purple plate right next to the silver strip you are showing. If its not in the door arches you will have to check with the dept of transport to check if it was complied and the plate has just been removed (which it is illegal not to display) or if it never was and was registered somehow illegally.
Either way you need that plate :|

Purple plate means car was complied under the new laws which means no accident or major damage all green plate ones are older compliance plates which means car has a history or damaged previously blue plate is under old sevs rule pre 88 means it's for older cars that usually don't have airbags fitted etc but doesn't mean either plates are valued more then other

Nah Phunkydude that's the normal VIN plate from the manufacturer, even my one in the UK had one of those.
Come to think of it I have seen the green ones on other FTO's that I looked at but they were in the engine bay, i'm hoping it has the green plate in the door arches then as I believe it's been here at least 4 years, will check with dept of transport too just to make sure - I haven't handed any cash over yet.

Just spoke to department of transport (WA) and the lady I spoke to said well it's registered so it doesn't matter if the green or purple plate is there as long as it shows on the registration document (which is also missing).
I'm not convinced and just worried that if I ever get defected etc then i'm going to have to fork out for compliance on this car even though it's been here years.

Turns out it has a purple plate hidden away somewhere, i've been sent a pic so pretty happy that it's ok plus it's registered till January.
