fto problem

Post by scott.jem »

Hi guys

Recently I have be having a lot of problems with my car first the idle was screwed and the car would keep stalling so I got a new stepper and that’s fixed a week later the car shudders and the engine light comes on then when accelerating the car seems to hesitate, if I turn the car off and then back on again the light goes out and the car drives like normal but after 20-30 minutes it does it again and I have really bad fuel economy only 300km to a full tank. I replaced the 02 sensor and it made no difference, took the car to Mitsubishi and the came back with crank angle sensor and cam position senor but this is where it gets interesting. I have recently found out that my car is not a GPX its a GR the previous owner did an engine swap and put the GPX engine in, but from the looks of things did not change the ECU or wiring harness so I have connections with no plugs specifically the crank angle and cam position sensors. I have had the car for about 8 months now and it has be driving fine this problem has only started recently does any one have any ideas of anything else that could be causing it?

P.S I will be changing the ecu and harness at some point because the previous owner is just retarded.

lol.

Meanwhile I think you're on to the right thing there.
Wouldn't have thought the car to run at all, but never tried or looked in to it, I suppose MIVEC just wouldn't engage or would foul out... unsure.

Change the ECU and wiring then see how you go, given what you've said, I don't think anything else you do will render it 'fixed'.

edit: Just curious, how have you determined your car is a GR? That by chacking your chassis number against CompleteFTO?

I havent checked the chassis number its just random stuff that i have come across which makes me fairly certain such as the brakes are GR size the amount of unused electrical connections in the engine and the fact that it has a mass air flow senor lol which is all connected and working.

Can you post a picture of your engine bay? I'm wondering why a Mivec engine is using an MAF like the GR haha

But yes look up your chasis number on CompleteFTO to see what the car really is.

No it is a mivec engine it has the oil filler cap on the driver side and as you probs already know the non mivec has it on the other side lol. I will upload a pic of the engine tomorrow so everyone can look and laugh at my poor car.
