Removing CV joint
Has anyone removed an outer CV joint? I need to change the boot but can't see in the manual how to do it.
It appears to be suggesting I remove the drive shaft and split the inner joint then slide the outer boot over the full length of the shaft.
Can anyone tell me how to do it without splitting the inner joint? Ta

Removing CV joint
As I asked on Fannybook, does this leave a useable CV joint or just a warm feeling of hitting something hard?

Oh yeah, you can reuse. Just make sure its a short sharp wack (that way you only hit it once) and prefferably do it over grass or something soft. I was binning those ones ^ so it didn't matter too much.

The plan was to make a DIY but I've not had time!

Re: Removing CV joint
when i changed my outer, i just made sure the driveshaft was secure (use something to hold it in place) while hitting the outer cv with a hammer to make sure i didn't split or pull out the inner one as well.
speaking of inner; mine's making grinding noises & it sounds terrible when i turn left, but i've got no idea where to order a new one from? my dad has a lot of contacts in japan, and there's a lot of import/export in the business so he said he can probably get one in the next container (2 weeks), would this be the only way?

Re: Removing CV joint
The inners are not usually respsonsible for grinding when turning, they hum at high speed.
If you do want to do them however, they are a rebuildable joint. Just take it down to your local driveshaft guy & get them to do it. Last one I had done by a dodgy asian guy in Blacktown cost me 50 bucks.

Yeah it makes no sense to me either, but I've replaced the bearings & outer cv and it made no difference (needed changing anyway) and the brakes are fine. I'm hoping it's just the cv, and it does make sounds when going straight as well, but it's real grindy when i turn, I can't think of anything else it could be?

I did what bennoz did and it didn't work. Maybe my old cv was dodgy.I8A4RE wrote:They are. Dirty ass job but very easy.payaya wrote:Geeze you guys make change cv's easy.
When I cut into the inner race the splines were chipped so it would have come off anyway. Not sure if it was from the bashing or that was the reason I wouldn't come off.

Grind noise, got it changed - makes no noises now when I turn
A little off topic, might just make a new thread - but there's a fan noise coming from the engine bay, kinda like a hairdryer, only when it's in gear and rolling, though I'm not sure if it's one of my fans or possibly a belt, anyone got any ideas?

More of a hiss when acceleration? Def check your seals around the throttle body and valve cover bolt seals. Pressureise your intake and listen where the leak is originating from.

Well I changed my other cv and it came off with a couple taps. Obviously the other joint was stuffed in a way I could get it off!!
