How about this WA FTO on gumtree?

Post by Rob Furniss »

As some of you know I sold my FTO in the UK and moved to Perth a few months ago, now on the look out for another FTO.
There isn't much at a reasonable price in WA but i've just come across this one:
http://perth.gumtree.com.au/c-ViewAdLar ... =304045649

What do you think, good price?
Doesn't say if it's a GR or GPX but i've mailed them.
It's my least favourite colour (sorry to anyone with imperial) but a respray later may be on the cards, the price is very tempting.

Ok i've heard back and it is a GPX, might go and look at the weekend.
What do you think of the price?
Also any rough idea of respray costs (may be a job for later)?

Don't bother with a respray for a car this cheap, it will cost nearly as much as the car itself haha

If you want another colour spend extra and get a better FTO already in that colour :)

For $4000 there are bound to be some problems (however small or large) so if you're willing to take the risk have it thoroughly inspected

Thanks for the advice nighthawk, just struggling to find something in Perth and i'm without a car at the moment.
I know if I can wait to get the right car I should hang on a bit longer.

There are plenty to choose from, keep in mind the ones that are 7k you might be able to get for 6k if you pay cash straight away.

I lol'd at this one:

"- Powerful 6 cylinder VTEC YO!!!!! engine"

The red one looks like it may not be in bad condition actually. youll pick one that colour up cheaper precisely because it is that colour. The fact that it is pretty stock probably means that it hasnt had too hard a life.

Certainly don't want one with rust, what about the white one at 7K with the VTEC YO!!!!! engine (I know), reckon it's worth offering 6K?

Unfortunately you're stuck with the insanely expensive Australia market now. Something like your FTO would cost about 10k over here

Yeah I know and need to get to grips with that fact.
I loved my FTO when I first got it, was completely standard then so maybe should just look for a cheap low km's one here and appreciate it for what it is. Even though they are expensive here compared to the UK they are still better than a lot of other cars for the same money IMO.

He's down south somewhere, emailed him a few months ago and it's still alive and still rapid but I don't think he's into the forums or car club scene.

Hey Rob! Good to see your in AUS now.

Id love to supercharge my FTO, it sounds so much easier than turbo charging.

Im thinking about taking out a loan to do this :)

My opinion is that it's easier and less stress on the engine.
Hardest bit is mounting the charger and associated idler/tensioner pulleys as there's no off the shelf brackets to do this. Luckily I had a spare engine to mock-up the brackets, really wish i'd got them copied before selling the car.
I actually did remove everything and make paper templates just before selling the car and moving here but somehow they've vanished.

    Very basic list:
Supercharger (I used an Eaton M45 from a mini cooper s)
    Larger injectors (CDH-275)
Engine management (emanage blue will do)
Spare intake plenum to cut down and make shorter
Ally plate to make the brackets
    Idler/tensioner pulleys
    Bypass valve
    Small intercooler
    IC pipework

If I do buy another FTO I will most likely charge it and start a build thread on here, should be easier 2nd time around.
