Weird noice from front suspension area ...

Post by vandit »

Hi guys .. im no mechanic but just average DIY'er

Yesterday afternoon after driving my fto around for 200kms .. there is this weird noise and a strong (i mean strong) Vibration comming when acclerating over 100ks (legally lol) .. say your doing 120ks and you let your foot off the accelrater the vibration completely goes away .. and comes back again once you acclerate over 100ks..

Anyone else had this issue its only recent .. im thinking its a CV joint issue ?

I have this same issue, (except at a lower speed, and no real noise), unfortunately I don't know the solution :(

that could be a lot of things,

first thing you should do is to get a wheel/tyre balance

Agreed, get a wheel tire balance, (and alignment if necessary) then get them to check for buckle and uneven tire wear. That is the cause 90% of the time from what I hear...

As said above ^^^^^^^^
we can all say something that it could be :?
Best bet is take it down to a good work shop and get them to check it over.

Strange .. well as for rotors im getting a set od DBA ones for the front put on in 20 mins ... had 3 work shops have a look at one suggested it could be the gearbox.. which i doubt it ..

- Tyres all 4 balanced and wheel aligned
- New front rotors
- New Tie rod ends
- New front shocks with rsr springs (springs are 2nd hand)
-new cv joint
-New Steer rack boots

Those are the things i have replaced so far.. still counting...

Also the idle speed has dropped a little bit from 800ish to 500-600ish...

If vibration goes away when you lift off the accelerator it cannot be a wheel balance issue.

You should be looking closer at your driveline area, say cv's and engine mounts.

Do you get vibrations while accelerating under 100km's? If so check your front and rear mounts. If you notice your transmission bolts near the centre member are close say 5mm you definitely have a bad mount.

Sorry to borrow your thread,
But I'm actually getting horrible shake not just in my steering wheel but throughout my entire car at anything over 100km/hr. You can literally feel the floor shaking and hear shake at the back in the speakers...

ACTUALLY.

Bass_twitch correct me if im wrong but you said your mechanic said you had a bent lower control arm bracket and i havent seen you say anything about bushes in your lower control arm and Vandit hasnt mentioned him replacing lower control arm bushes.

I would say give that a go. They are under a lot of strain and would probably explain the vibration, if the bushes are chewed out on the inside they would allow that sort of movement/vibration.

Also bass_twitch why have u replaced everything else, when your mechanic says you have a bent lower control arm bracket. Surely that would of been your first point of call?

Because I asked Dwayne for a new one and he said that he doesn't know what hes talking about. There isn't a control arm bracket a such..
So is there?
I should get another mechanic to have a look shouldn't I?

And my old mechanic said that the bushes looked alright.

sorry guys should have said i have replaced every single bushes on the car front and rear .. 500 bucks just for all the bushes ..my control arm isnt bent.. i had 3 different workshops go over the car .. also another thing just for curiosity .. i placed the car on dyno 20 mins ago at Mecury motorsports... the vibration starts off from lower speeds and disappears at 60ks .. comes back violently after 100km/h..

car stock makes 98fwkw....dont know if this is coz of the ks.. 190,000ks

Next bet is .. find a steering rack re-cond shop and do the steering rack.. pretty much all under the car will be new then if it still does the vibration.. well... then i'll be disappointed

Dyno was done to try and fix my idle problem i think i need a idle control valve..

Mate I had my steering rack done because my mech reckoned it needed to be done... Didn't make a difference, but I'm hoping it does for you :)
