Cheap Quality Tires Hookups

Post by bass_twitch »

Hi all

My 4 tires are pretty shot (and I think they are worn uneven - causing wheel shake), and in the wet the over the weekend I almost ended up in a fence.
SO, I am in the immediate market for new tires.
My questions are:
1) Does anyone have any recommendations for which I should go for? (my budget in <$200 each if possible) - keep in mind I mainly stick to 'spirited' street driving, I do not track my car.
2) Can anyone in Sydney/NSW get cheap tires through friends/connections??

I will be purchasing a set of tires this Saturday!

All help is appreciated!

Yokohama c drives. I've had them for 26,000kms roughly. Plenty of grip for spirited driving. My rears have actually worn down quicker then the fronts.

They're good if you dont wheel spin for show, handbrake turns etc. Still have about 30% all over on my fronts but the outside of my rears have worn past the far outside grove.

will help you if you are stuck for what type of tyre you want.
I have BFG G-sport Profilers on mine (Z) and they were 170ea without a discount, so you could probably knock them down a bit of you tried.
They have much more noticeable grip than the last pair of Z's (michellin i think) that the car came with for me - get little to no tyre spin from a 4k clutch drop standstill, and i have heard that the pirelli P6000's are decent aswell for the extra 10 odd dollars a tyre.
You will most likely only want an R rated tyre, as the only reason i choose a Z rated tyre is for the speeds (that i am not inclined to disclose lol) i do on the off occasion. Which will make that price drop a bit.
Any well known tyre in the end will do as long as the tread pattern doesnt look funny, and google doesnt bring up any bad reviews on the tyre, you should be fine.

Having a quick browse of Jax website.
These tires would do fine hey?
http://www.jaxquickfit.com.au/tyres/brands/pirelli/p7
Speed rating of W - 215 x 17.. should be sweet.
Wonder how much I could get them for..
At least now I kinda know what to look for :D

I would go for the Pirelli's, they have a good history of a quality tyre - just make sure you get the right size for your car :D

both
fair bit of lights to lights, but love to push it on a cruise or around round abouts (always within the speed limits of course!)

I've currently got 215 on the front and 225s on the back.

if so far you've no problem with traction or understeer then stick with 215.
or if you wanna challenge for more Gs, pushing max through the twisties then go 225 front or even 235 provided you got 7.5"/8.0" widths rims.

To me tyres can pretty much make or break a car.
I chucked a set of mates wheels shod in Advan AD08's on a few weeks ago and it just transformed my car into a monster. I literally had more grip than balls.
In hindsight I wish I spent more on tyres and less on something else.

Maybe see what prices you can get for budget semi's like Khumo KU36's or Federal RSR's as well as a comparison.

id go 225's if you can, should easily get a set of boots for under $200 each on 17' rims

just dont expect to pick up a set of semi slicks or anything,

i got a set of Nexxen N6000's (Korean 'budget' tyres) for $200 each (18's, and were $280 each) and have been amazingly surprised by how good they are. its the same as anything, dont just be fooled by brand

Still reckon the Federal 595's are the best bang for buck for UHP street tyres.
