SO MANY ERROR CODES!!!!
Hi All,
I am having problems with my FTO and so the long story goes like this:
In the mornings the car starts and drives fine but until 15-20 minutes in the journey the engine light comes on and a few moments later the car chokes and shuts down. After pulling over to the side I can start the car again and drive...its ok a normal speeds but when it comes to a turn and I need to accelerate again the car chokes and cuts out, what could the problem be????? These days I can start the car 100% of the time and the voltage is stable and the meter needle doesn't drop (so not an alternator problem) but cuts-out after idling for 3-5 minutes. I just don't know what to do? Things that have been changed in the car (which is stock as a rock) since 100,000kms service done by a qualified mechanic (currently at 132,500kms) are:
Oil + Oil filter (oil and oil filter changes are up-to-date since 100kms service)
Timing belt kit
All belts
Spark plugs (platinum ones)
Water pump
Fuel pump
Alternator
Coolant (re-flushed)
Air-filter
Battery
Things that haven't been changed:
Spark plug leads
Fuel filter
Initially when I started to experience this engine light problem, I thought about running a diagnostic scan to see what error codes would come up. So I purchased both software and cable from evoscan and these errors came up:
Reading MUTII DTCs for EcuID:00FF
Updated: 11:03:00
Diagnostic Codes:
Oxygen Sensor
Intake temperature sensor
Throttle position sensor
ISC motor position sensor
Engine coolant temperature sensor
Crankshaft position sensor
Camshaft position sensor
Knock sensor
Injector circuit
Fuel pump relay
EGR sensor
Is it really possible that my vehicle is this sick (so many sensor errors)????
Just to note: I live in the Bankstown region, are there any reputable workshops that are known to fix FTOs?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much,
Paul.

Reset the ecu and go for a good drive then recheck the codes.

Re: SO MANY ERROR CODES!!!!
Hmmm...that may explain why it was so hard to get a diagnostic reading from my ECU. When requesting the diagnostic codes on evoscan...it would normally pop up "ECU not responding" then once in a blue moon (after 7+ attempts to retrieve) only one time the error codes would show up...I think you may be right silver.
Aza,
After resetting the ECU, I couldn't even drive out the car of my driveway
!! - luckily I have a bike.

Re: SO MANY ERROR CODES!!!!
Hey mate, sorry I haven't had time to check your PM.
Yeah certainly does sound like a shot ECU. Have you had any welding done of the car recently, like an exhaust repair?
Its just not possible to have all those sensors fail at one. Unless you hitt 88 mile an hour & went back to 1965.
Can you manually extract error codes with Evo Scan the old fashioned way? Ie watching the blinking light?

It was 1955
Jeez, get it right.
Trust you to fix my car, can't even get a year right.

On track however, yeah, not possible for all the sensors to die, maybe 1 or two went kaput, but not all.
Possible cap leak, track break or blown resistor.

In all the years I've owned an Fto I've had one error code, maybe my ecu is screwed too haha.

Re: SO MANY ERROR CODES!!!!
All good guys, it was the fuel filter. Changed the old bugger and no more engine light...runs like a champ now
! No more error codes registered.
Cheers boys!

Wow.
Your filter must be the worst one of them all if it was doing that to your ECU.
Please tell me you kept it, and if so, cut the sucker open for the wall!
