tappets/lifters changes are for which engine models?
hey ive been reading a lot of these forums and trying to find out, what engine models have adjustables and which ones have the changable ones?
but with the adjustable engine models like gpx can you still change the tappets/lifters? and can you use the same tappets/lifters as you would in a gr engine?
and with adjusting tappets/lifters im sure some fto's are still factory stock and have never had tappets/lifters changed or adjusted, is it safe to adjust the tappets/lifters after the factory has put them in 14-18 years? isnt it just better or safer for the engine to put in new tappets/lifters?
thanks guys

Heaps confusing pile of questions
Why dont you start by telling us what type of FTO you have & then we can go from there

de3a is model for fto
6a12 is the engine used
theres mivec and non-mivec
mivec have fixed tappets , non mivec has self adjusting tappets
mivec has a bigger cover over the engine and has the oil cap on the left side also dosent have a maf sensor box in the air intake pipe

Non mivec tappets are hydraulic so are supposed to be self adjusting. When they get clogged, they can't do their job and so therefore you replace them.bass_twitch wrote:I thought Mivec had adjustable tappets and non mivec you had to replace?bduffman wrote:de3a is model for fto

Mivec ones are adjustable and can be adjusted to the correct height.

Assuming Bennoz is always right, then you all got it wrong?
6a12 mivec got 12 adjustables and 12 hydraulics tappets.
That's why even after a mechanics adjusted the clearance, there are still some tappet noise exist as he didn't change the friggin' 12 hydraulics ones.

Correct ^
Mivecs have 12 adjustable and 12 hydraulic. The hydraulics are to keep the Mivec rocker arm in contact with the cam when they are not in use.
They are not interchangeable with GR or 'Non Mivec' hydraulic lifters. They're different.
Plus you have the added complication of the little plastic collets on the adjustable tappets that quite often crack off & dissappear.

Re: tappets/lifters changes are for which engine models?
I think payaya was trying to ask if the ebay link was what i was talking about "3sx" having them. I meant the website 3sx, not sure if its relevant to 3000gt. But heres the link that i was talking about.
