Yep. It gives continuous power to the whole ignition circuit.

Pull starter out and try activate it on a separate circuit??

I tried it but the screws were soft as putty (or I'm getting a lot stronger than I used to be!)Bennoz wrote:Did you disconnect the battery when putting it in? Cause the short from a live reconnection can kill the solenoid if its weak.
And FYI, you can just swap the solenoid off the starter by itself. 2 big phillips head screws & the 12 nut on the wire on the back of it & she'll come off the starter.

Wack it in a vice with a hex phillips head bit & use a shifter to turn it
