Gearstick boot lasts ?
How long years or K's would an OE leatherette gearstick boot last before the part under the gearknob starts to crap out .
I know that this can't be diffinative thing as unknown factors will affect it's longevity so round abouts ?
I know for example the the handbrake and gearstick boots in a couple of Astras I looked at a while ago were absolutely shagged and they were 2004 with less than 70000klm and when I looked on carsales those that I coud see were no better , but I had a 98 Skyline R34 GTSt with 98000klms and the gearstick boot was OE and just fine.

Like you said, different variants etc etc.
Not sure if mine is OE or not but it's leather and the cat has 190xxx on the clock. I've had the car for 20,000 so far and only problem is it slips out of the bracket. A 5c piece can tuck it back down there well enough until you manage to pull it out with a gearshift again. A bit of hot glue or even taking the panel out and stapling it to itself so it won't slide out as easily should fix it.

Sorry to sound like a dick.
But you will never get an answer for this.
If I bought 2 identical cars left 1 in the sun and 1 garaged, never touched them and went back after 5 years, which do you think would have faired better?
It's all about how the car's used and the conditions it was put through.
If you're trying to judge a car based on age by parts wearing, then your answer can come out wrong.
IF you genuinely want to know how long something like that would last, then all I can say is, pay $20 and buy a replacement when it dies...

As I wrote , there can be no definative answer.
I am however hoping to get an overall feel for thier logevity.
I gave the Astra as an example of where the boots are obviously very poor material and have a relatively short life.
It puzzles me why some should look as though they've been chewed by a doberman and some look fine, cars general condition seemingly having no conection, i.e good car crap boot and vice versa.

Well it looks like some one got out of bed on the wrong side.
How about a chill out time, there is no need to carry on like you are.
