egine reving higher than normal

does anyone know why my engine is running about half a thousand to a thousand revs more than was a few months ago, and should i check anything,
apparently there is still enough oil according to the gauge

Have you actually checked via the dipstick?

Things like spark plugs, leads, filters can have an effect on the idle.
Then it goes into other things which need further investigation.

When's the last time you had the car serviced?

Yeah i have checked the dipstik it says it still has oil,

And i havnt had it serviced in a while, it did go through a road worthy not long ago, i recently bought it and am in the process of giving it a good throurough going over, taking a while cause of money though,
