Car will not start if it was under the sun for a while.
Hi guys/gals
Got another issue.
Hope you have some insight and suggestions.
Recently, the weather has been hotter and staying there for several days.
Possibily due to this, this thing keep cropping up.
Car will crank, but the engine will not start up. I need to stop and walk around a little bit, before trying again. Today, it got worse and I had to wait an hour. Subsequently, made a short stop after 5 mins of driving and this issue occurred again. Only had to wait 5 mins this time, to get the car started.
Also, the tip needs to be at N to even crank. If at P, it will not crank.
Things of note:
1>Starter motor was an OE brand new, fitted 6 months ago.
2> Starter relay was placed in about 4 months ago, after issues with ignition,
where it will not crank at N or P, occasionally.
3> My car has an intermittent issue where it will only crank and start up at N, if it does not do so at P.
4> This issue did occur a few months ago, and very rarely, but it never got so bad(started up after 2-3 long cranks, or re-enable and disable the immobiliser to crank and start up), till this hot spell.
5> I have not changed the fuel filter yet, so it is of unknown age. However, I have no acceleration or engine dying out while on freeway or traffic lights issue. I do have one brand new and plan to get it fitted soonish.
Cheers

Start with the basics.
Got fuel? - check & replace fuel filter is a good idea
Got spark? - When was the last time it was serviced?
Got error codes? - viewtopic.php?f=21&t=14667
Shifter wear is also a good thing to check. If the cables don't lock into the exactl reight spot in P & D etc, it just wont start.

Spark plugs were replaced with Iridiums about 6 months ago. Have done 11000 kms since.
Last service was 2 weeks ago.
No error codes, when it happened the second time and I brought it down to my mechanics. I made this post when it happened the 3rd time.
How hard is it, to check the shifter? Labour intensive?

Well, risky. You have to remove your stereo surround and that is a scary proposition. Other than that, you are looking at a 15 minute job to remove the stereo surround and floor console

Oh, the cracked center console issue?
Think mine is already cracked
Will see if being under the sun today will cause me issues again.

A little off-topic, but David(RPW) found this attached to my dash, when he took mine out to test his last week.

Any idea what it does? Have tried googling it, and my guess it is for a Trip Computer?
Even my ECU has a lead coming out from it(Found, when David swapped it out to test his as well, last year).
So kinda makes sense now. If so, any idea on how I can use it? Attach to a PC or something?

Re: Car will not start if it was under the sun for a while.
The issue was with the Immobiliser.
When the cranking but no ignition issue happens, the Voltmeter will not register any reading, nor will any of the dash lights come on.
AirCon, lights, deck and windows will still work though.
Have re-seated the immobiliser, and will observe if it occurs anymore.
Cheers
