Today I tried the Ignition Failure Sensor bypass trick,

http://www.club3g.com/forum/3g-eclipse- ... ypass.html

Still no go.

I tried replacing the bloody fuel filter but couldn't get the top nut off as i didnt have a 19mm socket only a 3/4 and stripped it slightly.
I really don't think thats the culprit though as the fuel has a good solid flow when cranking the engine.

Is there any other sensors that i can bypass or pull off that might help troubleshoot?

Poor thing, i also tried this, but great link.. I just went ahead with a few things to hit and miss possible problems... I have on the other hand found out the TPS is at fault. Went ahead and checked for codes as soon as the engine light came back on AGAIN! Yeap TPS!!! It was the stepper motor... Removed and replaced it was all good for a few days and then back to it's old tricks... They were similar but not as bad as they were...

I have had it not start at the sets of traffic lights... Play up and not change gears accordingly LOLZ! Engine light will pop up, car will play up, engine light will go away car will be fine... Next set of lights or rapidly stopping for a set... Changes into 1st(yes tip tronic) without warning car stops!!! Will not start again! Okay with the TPS(Throttle Position Sensor) Starts/Idles/drives... Only a matter of time before it happens again!!!

Sorry for the novel! Seems like i am having the same/similar problems... Ahhh!

Cheers Damian.

Ben can you do a DIY write up when you do it?

im thinking my FTO might have a fuel filter problem.

when i last drove it it ran great for about an hour and a half and just slowly lost power until it eventually just died, which took about 15/20 minutes.
it wouldnt immediately start so the car was stuck!

next morning it started and drove onto the trailor.... sound like a fuel filter prob? or wishful thinking?

How frustrating!!... I think these cars are at the age now where they are more trouble then they are worth..... still such a good looking car though.

Not sure if it needs it own write up, seems pretty straight forward.... just the access is a pain in the arse.... and knuckles.
Section 13b-3 of the FTO chassis manual has some pics and details of doing it.

Fuel filter is straight forward, its just an order of operations you need to learn to make it easy.

Always remove the lines off the filter before removing the bolts that hold it onto the firewall.

Then on reassembly, always attach the lower fuel line before you remount to the firewall.

Otherwise you'll be constantly fighting that stupid swaged fitting & if you dont have a brake like spanner... well... lets just say the loud expletives list can grow exponentially.

When you 'replaced it' did you actually go & buy a new one? If you didn't, thats the first thing I'd be doing.

Yeah Ben, you sent me the link to their eBay site
It is a brand new Stepper Motor. The problem is sorted for now until something else decided to die ;)

Crap!

Committed my own pet hate, and didn't update with the solution.

Ended up being the Crankshaft position sensor.

But at times you easily agree on takin on the job, contradicting that statement
Yeah, well when you do dozens & dozens of them for people, you kinda develop a technique to doing it easily.
