I got a few things that i want doing but i may need helpwith

Post by EscapingFate »

I want to get some taillight tinting...
So i would like to know how much it will cost me.. and if anyone could help me install it cause as ive said in previous statements i am not very good at all with mechanical things and i dont want to break my car lol.

Also my passenger side tail light seems to have a leak how much would it cost to get me a new seal for it or if i need a new tail light how much roughly would that cost me..

Im also interested in getting dash lights changed to blue... I guess i have to talk to Dstocks about getting those bulbs?

For tinting tail lights, see here:

http://ftoaustralia.com/v3/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=4186

That's a detailed thread telling you how to put circles in the tint but you can ignore that and just tint them yourself, it's very easy, don't need any mechanical info at all. Just how to spray the tail lights, take a look. Honestly extremely easy. Don't need to remove the lights.

HIDs:

Also very easy.

You buy them from
http://ftoaustralia.com/v3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22593

He'll order them for you. The reason why previous ones didn't fit is cos there's different sizes, you need HB4 which is the size of the bulbs, the link above is for those.

To change HIDs, there's a instruction manual that comes with it. All you do is pop your bonnet, you'll see cables going into your headlights. Just pull out that cable and attach the one you get with the HIDs.
The HIDs are powered by "ballasts", they're little boxes with electricity which charge the lights. They come with metal mounts, just screw them into your chasis in empty space around the lights.

Take a look and have a go it's honestly a lot easier than you think. There's even youtube videos telling you how to do it.

It looks from your signature like you have a facelift FTO and if I recall correctly yours is actually a version R?
If I am correct, the version R's came standard with HID's, in which case you will need a D2S bulb, not a HB4.

Assuming I am right, you would probably want to consider how well you think your lights are working at the moment, because if you aren't that happy the only easy thing to do is to buy replacement D2S bulbs (not a whole HID kit) to see if that makes them any better ....or gives you the look you want - depending what your motives are.

If you decided to go the whole new D2S kit new (ballasts and bulbs), be prepared to remove the front bumper (to replace the factory ballast which sits under the headlight) and then cut and solder the power wires as the OEM connector does not hook up to any aftermarket HID kit.

The OEM bulb colour is 4300K, which is recognised in the industry as the brightest and least fatiguing colour for use in car lights.
If you are merely after the ultra blue look rather than actual lighting power, then I guess something like an 8000k bulb will be your best bet.

If you definately have a version R, you definitely have HID's already.

The most obvious confirmation of this is opening your bonnet and looking at how much the chamber behind the low beam light protrudes. If it is a pretty long chamber you have HID's as standard.
Example
Image
Alternatively you could park up next to a wall and turn on the lowbeam lights. If the lights start out dim and then get gradually brighter that is a telltale sign that you have HID's (older style non digital).

If you think the lights are fine ( ie you don't get any flickering and they never go out) and you just want the super blue look, just go an buy two 8000k D2S bulbs.
I put a 8000k kit in my car, and I am considering getting the OEM 4300k items for extra brightness as I don't really care much about the blue look. If you are interested, I would be willing to sell you my month old bulbs when I get the new items. I might even be willing to help put them in for you.

Actually, im not sure that Version R's all came out with hids. There are facelift non hids as well. Its certainly down as an option, but im not certain that it is a standard feature.

Oh really? What makes you unsure? Have you seen some vR's without it?
I thought I read somewhere that the HID's were one of the several distinguishable features of a vR?

The sales brochure for the vR seems to be making some point of HID lights judging by the picture, but I guess we can't be sure what it says as its in japanese.

I thought HIDs were (generally) removed during compliance.

Actually, not true. Early model version Rs (96/97) didnt have them. It was only in later years that they were standard:

Or check the bulb that came with it if there's a small bubble its 35w if its a big bubble its 55w google serch and it will show you the difference in them
