Re: Moving from UK to Australia Feb 2011
Thanks for the info.
And what is it with ebay, do they not allow you to sell cars on ebay in WA or does nobody bother?
Would love another FTO but it looks like we will have to get a holden or a ford for now (at least for the missus) until I can have a nice toy again.
Does anyone know if 3L diamante engines are easy to come by?

Re: Moving from UK to Australia Feb 2011
Mazadas are popular in Perth, along with Toyota and Mitsubushi.
Great Wall is a new brand in Perth, from China and they seem to have very reasonably priced utes and people movers.
If you want to be safe, just get a 2005 or newer Toyota Camry. About 10k each. Roomy and not too fuel guzzling.
Petrol price is like 1.15 - 1.39 per litre for RON 91 here. add about 25 cents more, for RON 98.
Join http://www.fuelwatch.wa.gov.au for the next day price update after 3pm, to plan for nextr fuel stop. Very useful for me.
Fuel prices fluctuate daily, with Wednesdays being the cheapest, currently. However, petrol stations tend to be jammed packed during that time, unless you refuel at extreme off-peak offhour, example: 10pm upwards.
Any other questions, feel free to ask.
Cheers.

Thanks Yotka, petrol price in the UK is about £1.33 per litre at the moment and set to be above £1.40 soon which would be more than $2.

But, things in perth are placed far apart.... so... we will use more fuel here, than UK, in general.
Perth is the worst city in the world, in terms of substainability.

Great page, to check on traffic conditions.
Makes travelling easier, if you stay and work on opposite ends of the city, like me.

Hmmmm, 15 year old car vs brand spanking new, yeah that makes a logical argument

Actually, the Volvos from the 80s might be safer than any car now.
Will slice through the new cars like a hot knife through butter.

You know cars are designed to crumple now? That makes them safer.yotka wrote:Hmm, we should ditch the FTO and get a Hilux with bullbars.

Re: Moving from UK to Australia Feb 2011
I watched a few more crash videos after the one above.
The bigger 4WDs have a compatibility issue with smaller and lower cars.
Their height made them crash into smaller cars' soft zones, and enable them to basically plow through to the passenger compartment of the lower car.
Even with a same model car, but with different weight loadings, the more heavily loaded car lose out, in a head-on crash due to height differences.
