Reccommendations for Sound System Setup.
hey guys!
im looking to purchase a 97 FTO GPX, either next week or the week after
and i have begun looking at some I.C.E that i can install into the car.
i was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on what kind of setup i could buy/ have a look at (not nessisarly brands, if you guys dont want to stiupulate) but just kind of the size of speakers, how many, crossovers, sub, amplifier etc. im a massive noob when it comes to car audio.
I like my music clear, but with a punch (bassy, but not over powering that all you hear from the car is the doof doof sound).
also im looking to purchase a touch-screen indash (Mp3, GPS, iPod unit) if that helps at all.
Any suggestions/recommendations what i should get/where i should get it and where i can get it installed would be sick
would be awesome!
thanks in advance!

Re: Reccommendations for Sound System Setup.
ok so i put off on commenting on this cause i no it will start a fight but no one else has commented so to avoid a fight
ill just say
set a limmit and go to your local car audio shop have a listen to a few of there speakers the fto has 6x9s in the back deck and i think 6 or 6and half inch in the front ( not quite sure cant remember ) you could go spits or Coaxial
splits may cost slightly more but will prob give a better SQ pending on how you set your tweets up
you could add a sub but will cost more as you will need a amp and wiring
depending on your sterio you should be able to play around with bass and frequency
i tend to run the fronts slightly louder then the rears as im sorta over the bass

First off, if your going to bother about a good sounding system then whatever speakers you get you have to amp them. Not only will it sound better, it will also increase the lifespan of the speakers.
6x9 will fit in the back
6.5" will fit in the front
Front components (tweeters) on the triangle above the front door.
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING SONY.

Or get jaycar response 6.5" kevlar splits, if you're on tight.
If you got the dosh, get boston s60 splits or alpine type-r.

Re: Reccommendations for Sound System Setup.
I had Sony in my pulsar and it sounded fine simon and had no problems.
ATM I'm running 6.5 Polk audio front splits then 6x9 Polk audio in the rear. All 4 speakers powered by a 4ch pioneer amp. Then I have a sony monoblock running my 2x MTX 12" subs.
Sounds good

Re: Reccommendations for Sound System Setup.
hey nerdyboy
i know what u mean with that sort of sound system, use to be an audio installer for autobarn a fair while back so this is as u could say my area of expertice
this is what im running
single din touch screen dvd/mp3/cd player
6inch splits in the front doors
6x9s on the rear partial shelf
12 inch sub with amp in the boot with remote gain control
now i do have the speakers running of the deck yes its a little weird seeing as most people get amps to run the speakers too but when u have a decent head unit, decent speakers and tune the system right an amp for the speakers isnt really needed esp in small cars like the FTO unless u plan of killing your ear drums.
as for tuning the system, tune the system while playing what u would classify as your loudest song
first of all just tune the speakers, not your sub (will get to that in a min) set up your treble and mid tones to your liking. the easier to tune while the sub is off
once they to your liking activate the sub set up the LPF (low pass filter) to accept the lowest frequincy it will take in accordance to what your sub will produce and set your gain on half on the amp itself and then in the cabin use the remote gain switch to fine tune your bass to your liking
every dvd player these days will play MP3s and MP4s with no issue at all and has ipod connectivity weather it be by USB or 3 way 3.5mm head phone jack
as for the GPS part of it all if u want it built in Pioneer or Kenwood units are the way to go, or if u dont mind some of the cheaper brands u can buy a seperate unit which plugs into the back to give it sat nav
hope i was able to help, if u have any qs about what ive written feel free to ask

Re: Reccommendations for Sound System Setup.
why are you running a single din ?
it would either block the aircon or the tray bit
if you want good music dont use mp3s

A car is a terrible place to listen to high end audio, 320kbps mp3s are perfectly fine for the environment they are played in.bduffman wrote:why are you running a single din ?

yeah normally but im not silly its in the bottom din so its not in the way of the climate control buttons

as for the tray there isnt one there its just a blank panel
as for the MP3 side of things, The MP3 feature is standard accross all after market head units made after 2002
can just always buy legit music cds

your both right and wrong in this matter
it all depends on how the system in your car is not only set up with the types of speakers and the position of them but also how its tuned. ive heard $500 sound better than $5000 systems all coz the owner knew the best possy for the speakers and how to tune them right.
just so u guys know yes they used the same song from the same disc for that test
