OK, guy’s I have spoken to a few people and apparently the same thing has happened in New Zealand with a Galant Recall.

Mitsubishi New Zealand instantly said no to pay for the recall, but as soon as the risk of some more bad publicity came to light, they began to pay for the recall.

So I think if we want Mitsubishi to pay for this, we might have to kick up a bit of a stink! As Mitsubishi cannot afford any more bad publicity!

I emailed Dept of Transport about this. Here is the reply.

"Vehicle recalls are under the TPA not the MVSA. We act as agents for the ACCC for vehicles and vehicle components. I think the TPA makes the supplier of the goods in Australia responsible (certainly not Mitsubishi in this case) - so presumably that would be the people you bought it from. In practical terms it generally translates to the manufacturer, importer or wholesaler of the goods. So we chase the company that was approved to place the low volume plate on the vehicle. A number of Toyota Soarers are currently being recalled for non-complying seatbelts.

And no nobody here has any info on the FTO recall yet. We exchange info with Japan so we will get to know about it if it is a recall."

If we are in Japan, then Mitsubishi have to fix it for free, but we not, so theres nothing we can do at the moment.

All i know is if the insurance company knew this, they either going to put up the premium, or have an excuse not to pay you out if you had an accident, due to the recall.

Somebody whose car is affected by this recall needs to call up a Mitsubishi dealer (or even better head office).

Just see what they say, you never know, they might just pay for it. Or do some sort of a deal.

If they say no, just point out that if Mitsubishi had not have covered this recall up when they first found out about it , then all the cars would have been fixed in Japan, long before they entered Australia.

(Believe me I work in the Automotive industry and have worked in warranty dealing with recalls, Believe me if enough people kick up a stink they will pay for it.)

I think this case would be a bit different, as Mitsubishi Motor Australia never approved for the FTO to be imported to Australia.

So all they have to say is, you brought this vehicle at your own risk from other importers, & its up to the import people you got it from to decide if they want to fix it or not.

NEW QUESTION:

what is the FTO heater core/matrix made up of? copper, brass, aluminium, plastic?

I assume they're all the same for each version? (mine's a '95 manual GPX).

If I can get an answer to this ASAP, IT WILL BE A HUGE HELP :D :D

thanks.
