Burnt cables to starter motor
Hey guys after I changed the starter motor everything was fine drove it home. I went back down a hour later to go out and their was no lights and alarm wouldn't turn off. Opened the bonnett and found the cables going to the starter motor were completely fried both positive and negative.
Now can something inside the starter motor cause this. In pulling the car apart after work and re wiring it.
Of course the battery is completely fried

The positive wire would have been touching the body (earth).

Maybe its because there's more than 3 wires? Ie Active, Neutral & Earth?

Lol get out of it Ben haha it's because I deal with 415v not 12v lol I was just wondering if the starter motor could have caused it to short out lol

Short answer is yes, it could have.
I've had an issue where a bad earth (big one from loom to chassis) caused the starter solenoid to fry & arc on permenantly. Fortunately for me, one of the legalities of relocating ones battery into the boot, is to fuse the main positive line, I had a 150amp fuse that popped... as opposed to what happened in your case & you melted that whole main line.

Re: Burnt cables to starter motor
bahahahaha sorry had to laugh the exact same thing happened to me when i replaced the starter, drove in town and the cables were touching the hot engine when i stoped to get some food and started the car back up i ended up melting the leads my battery terminals, deadly green smoke started coming out of the bonet...
lesson learnt, new leads and battery fixed it right up .. and this time i tied the leads in the appropriate area !!
