Coolant smell every now and then...
Hi all,
Got a couple of little niggles with the FTO that I just bought about a week and a half ago...
I'll put them in separate topics so that it's easier for someone to look up later.
What happens every now and then is that there will be what I believe is the strong smell of coolant in the cabin.
I've checked under the car for leaks and also the floor for any dampness...nothing.
Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

That would be the case if there had been leakage, but there's none...

Only coolant that passes into the car is threw the heater core and if it was leaking from the engine bay you would get steam
Try turning the heater on and then cheak for leakage ( passenger side black box under dash remove glove box to make it easyer )

Not always. If its a slow engine leak soemtimes you just smell coolant but no steam.bduffman wrote:Only coolant that passes into the car is threw the heater core and if it was leaking from the engine bay you would get steam

Ok, might get it checked out by the mechanic because I've honestly checked EVERYWHERE (inside and out) for leaks and there is absolutely nothing.

THIS.
Mate I dare say you have a leak....somewhere. Take your car into a radiator place and get them to pressure test your system. They will be able to identify the cause very quickly. Some places even will do it for free.

My guess is the coolant pipes under your throttle body. Sometimes it's really hard to see. Dries coolant is a white colour. So have a look around your engine and see if you have "whiteout" type marks on your engine parts.

But yeah, definitely get a pressure check! That will help!
