Replacing standard roof with one with a sunroof

Post by Foe »

Hey guys just wondering if anyone foresees any problems with replacing the standard roof on a GPX with one with a sunroof? Im going to replace my roof anyway and was wondering if that would be the way to go. Price difference is around $400.

do u mean u chopping your whole roof off & then replace it with the whole roof with a sunroof in it?

If u are, i would wonder how it would affect the balance of the car.

Due to the damn glue used in some 1994 mitsubishis (or so they say) there is a issue rust forming along the roof parrallell with the windscreen. Its the only place affected in the whole car but the best way to get rid of it for good is to replace the whole damn roof. Hence the option for a sunroof provided theres no issues. How would balence be affected?

that seems like an extreme move. The roof is part of the structual integrity of the car and tampering with it can cause all sorts of issues. I'm not sure how your insurance company would feel about this, they don't normally like things like that.

Also, where would you find one? I'm guessing from a car which has been written off, so there's a good chance the new roof would be damaged too.

You'll also have to respray a large part of the car.

It seems like a large and costly exercise.

Wasnt there a discussion about this in another thread??

if your gunna remove the roof altogether then u'd need to do some major structural work!! I think someone looked into gettin a targa roof but gave up cause of all the structural work u had to do to make it sound

Hey Foe,

Does that mean you know of some one who will put a sunroof on your factory gpx roof without a sunroof at the moment with the dip?
Or you are referring to replacing it?

I wonder if any one has found a place who will put sunroof on to a factory fto roof with the dip...?

I know there had been a discussions on this but I don't think it never really came to any conclusion!

Just wondering, cause I would love a sunroof on mine, but haven't been able to find any one who could do them....
:(

If you do a search you should be able to find the old thread. Don't know about Sydney but from memory there was a place in Melbourne that would do it. How they did it was also in that thread.

Hey fto617, you think you can get a hold of that pic. I'm sure lots of people in the forum would be interested to see the result of the sunroof
