Hi,

My name is Rob and I live in the Central West of NSW. I currently drive a TH Magna.
I have officially decided to purchase a FTO.

Was tossing up between a Galant and a Ralliart Magna also but im a bit over the magna (have owned 3 in my 7 years of driving) and have a TT car at 24 is way to costly on isurance.

Although I havnt purchased one yet and am probably looking at it early next year as im just moving into a house, I've already got big plans for it. lol.

I will be looking at a GPX manual (which is the same as a GP Version R I beleive (Please correct me if Im wrong)).

Ill be wanting to make a street/track car so Bigger Brakes and and Suspension will be first on the list. Would I be correct in saying the Brembos from an Evo is a straight swap? ( I hope so lol)

The GPX and the GPvR have the same engine but the GPvR is lighter. The GPvR has better suspension, an LSD, HID headlamps, different seats, different spoiler.

the GTO brakes are a "straight" swap, with little modification.

Gives you a 4 pot caliper instead of the standard 2 pot.

and no electric folding mirrors or sound insulation. It only makes like 20 kg difference though.

Ill have to have a look into that. Id say it would be a lot harder to source a set of those then it would a set of Brembos of an Evo lol.

Yep get a GPVR

GPX for the win.

By now the GPvR would of had its suspension changed out so no real gain there, maybe the springs are harder but not really, youll probably lower it anyway.
the swaybars a like a few mm thicker and strutbraces,
you dont get cool folding mirrors, itll be noisy in the cabin.
So for that extra $3000 u pay on getting a GPvR you could of bought some strutbraces for $400 and springs for $300, but itll probably be already done anyway, cos the fto was released what like 14 years ago.

And yeah wow LSD with 100kw at the front wheels really needed.

Clearly you've never been around a corner at full throttle with an LSD.

oh i misread your question, no i havent driven an fto with lsd at full throttle around a corner, but i have driven mine full throttle around corners, and i didnt get any understeer or wheelspin, or screeching, or torque steer.

Well, ive owned 3 GPX and my Version R (Wifes car is currently a manual GPX). And the LSD makes a BIG difference when cornering (as do the other suspension components - I do the Clyde mountain pass 3 times a week). The later model Version R's also have a different suspension setup on the front (different lower control arm + droplinks) that is better. Although there is supposed to be less sound deadening in the Version R's, ive noticed no difference between them and the GPX (although mines an Version R Aero, so maybe that's why). I did a comparison before I bought mine (took a few months to put together) and came to the conclusion that a Version R was the better way to go. This is especially the case if you dont see any benefit in the climate control. The fold in mirrors can be added to the version R if you want them (I have - although there is no value to this in Australia). That just leaves the soundproofing which to be honest isnt great in any model (has anyone else noticed a difference). The price difference is minimal these days as well. To my mind the LSD is the clencher. Oh and I prefer the version R wing (although you can buy one of those and fit to a GPX easily).

Well considering i plan to track the car an LSD will be the way to go... and im not fussed about folding mirrors lol.

Plus the Version R are the only ones that come with the cool seats isnt it? I know ill be looking maybe for some recaros in the future but if the do they job...

All depends on whats good on the market at the time. If you find a GPX thats too good to turn down, you can always get Dstocks to source you an LSD, I know I have one in my GPX. As for climate control, folding mirrors, they're all creature comforts. Sound deadening can always be done if you decide to install a stereo.

Thanks mate. A Stereo is the last thing ill want though... However is it difficult to put a LSD in the GPX?
