Slave cylinder and Master Cylinder
Heya, I'm having problems with my gearbox at the momement, I think it's related to the clutch, basically, at times, it's impossible, to move her into gear, I have hit the clutch like a million times, before it actually (the gear stick) moves into gear..
Anyways, I know there was a sligh leak at the slave cylinder, so I took it to a mechanic, and he went and got a quote on the parts, and quoted me $200, for just the slave cylinder, he also said, the master was due soon, and quoted me $300 on the master cylinder...
Are these prices resonable? He said the parts were really expensive? Any idea's on where I can maybe source a slave/master cylinder cheaper from somewhere?

hey
i recently got my clutch master cylinder replaced.....
firstly,
price...$180 bucks was what I was charged
secondly....after they removed it and sent it to their supplier to find out what cylinders 'matched' it due to FTO not being on their list, they found the cylinder matched that of the Mitsubishi Lancer/Mirage CE models...
so if your prices are parts only then id question them, if that includes labour its not to bad
question your mechanic to wether he asked for an FTO cylinder or a Mirage CE cylinder, and see if there is a price difference(i wouldnt be suprised if there was)

Was yours $180 fitted??
Could the slave cylinder be of the same type sa the mirage/lancer? or can it be different?

Thanks for that, but I have no idea how to get a part number, and also if you can tell me what car it came from, do I just go to a dealer, like Mitsubishi or whoever and ask them for those parts?smorison wrote:if you get me a part number i will tell you what cars it comes from
Don't dealers add like "dealer profit margin" ie, they wack on 250% for profit?

look in the yellow pages for companies that supply brake and clutch parts, here in Perth you would call Perth brake parts or repco, there are usually numerous companies that supply parts to the automotive industry. ring one of them or go in with the part and ask them to supply it for the Mitsubishi Lancer/Mirage CE models

So you think think if I went into repco, and said, I need a slave and master cylinder for a mitsu FTO or if not that a lancer/mirage ce, they could get the parts for me?dannyboyau wrote:look in the yellow pages for companies that supply brake and clutch parts, here in Perth you would call Perth brake parts or repco, there are usually numerous companies that supply parts to the automotive industry. ring one of them or go in with the part and ask them to supply it for the Mitsubishi Lancer/Mirage CE models

Sounds good, but, I only have one car, and thats my baby fto...dannyboyau wrote:i wouldnt mention the FTO, as soon as you mention a grey import the price goes up. i would take the the slave and master cylinder in and say i need a slave and master cylinder off a CE lancer. Then see if they match, or tell your mechanic that they match the CE lancer, then let him get them.
How would i pull off the cylinders, and get down there, ask if it matches? then take it to my mechanic to fit??
