i just compared the gpx and gp vr models:

the gpx has projector lights (please explain - are these standard globes or??) and the gpvr has the gas discharge type HID's

the gpvr doesnt have a room mirror (with map ramp)
the gpvr doesnt have fog ramps (;-) engrish for fog lamps)
the gpvr doesnt have a full auto air con? (is this climate control?)
the gpvr doesnt have a passenger air bag?
the gpvr doesnt have central locking?
the gpvr doesnt have a side air dam?
the gpvr doesnt have keyless entry?
the gpvr doesnt have high back sports seats?
but it has a big rear spoiler :-) :-) (sorry, couldnt helpt it)

I'm guessing these are omissions :-( can anyone please clarify? I find it hard to believe that the price of HID lamps from a manufacturing point of view would offset the price of all the 'missing' features.

I also recall reading that the gpvr has illuminated kick plates on the door sills and also also the re-moddled front bar.

Mechanically, are their engines and drive trains, suspension and brakes the same? (gpx/gpvr)

further, the pic of the GPX on those pages shows the newer GPV-R styled front bar.

please help!!!

The GPvR has all these "omissions" because it was realesed as a racing version of the standard GR, by ommiting all these options they lowered the weight of the car and allowed for better handeling, they also added a few comfort extras such as leather interior and momo steering wheel :D

And yes the pic of the GPX is the facelit front bar, older models with have the pre facelift front bar with the fogies and indicator in one light cluster

The version R also had front and rear strut braces and suspension designed by ralliart and a viscous type LSD I think, I think it isn't mechanical anyway.

Difference from my head:

HID headlights (Option on GPX)
No Mirror Motors
CE Lancer climate control.
Viscous LSD.
Front and Rear Strut Bars.
Lesser amount of sound proofing.
Version R rear wing

As far as I know, version R were released post face-lift, thus only came with the post facelift front spoiler.

There isn't really much else, all optional accessories were available for the type-R but you don't buy a Type R just to put a heavy sunroof in it, do you =)

I don't think there are any differences to spring / damper rate from the other FTOs.

Just expect most Type-Rs to have gone through the wars, they are bought usually for only one reason =)

All post 97 FTOs have the new style bumpers.

GPvR actually came out in 1996. And this had the old-styled front bumper.

The post-97 GPvR don't come with side skirts or fog lamps either. But the Aero GPvR do come with side skirts and fog lamps.

As for kick plates, this is an option on all FTOs. But I'm pretty sure FTOs never came with a leather interior option. Wished it did though!
From FTO to EVO......

Droo, what you said is correct =)

Alright, just to make things more clear =)

GPvR have electric mirrors (ie the mirror angle is adjustable).

But they do not have the motors that fold the mirrors in.

D-TRAIN: I thought the facelift occured in '95 . . . or am I getting it mixed up with GTOs . . . =P =)

Regardless, if they did come out pre-facelift, my appologies =)

And yeah, AERO version of their respective models came out with with the optional fog light standard and the side skirts =) (The other AERO was a GR???)

I think that the GPvR came with:
a choice of red, blue or black trimmed front seats
5 speed auto
LSD
Traction control
ABS
Window winders instead of electric windows
HID lamps
NO fog lamps
and it weighted about 30kg less then the GPX
i have seen a couple been sold in Melbourne, there are going for about 30K.

I though they didn't have electric windows until i saw eric's MADFTO hehehee

My though on the GPvR are that you miss out on the creature comfort you wouldn't notices at the first place, but you do gain few extra that you will notice when you "having a go", especially on track.
