Strut, Strut top noise problem

Post by Valandis91 »

Over the past couple of days i have noticed a squeaking noise coming the passenger side
front area.

it happens when i turn the steering wheel.

so im guessing its something in the steering components. sounds like two things rubbing together. like rubber metal or something....

any help would be great.

cheers

well when weird explanation but you know when a boat is moored against a dock and they have those inflatable things attached to prevent damage and they squeak when they rub with the jetty it sounds like that.

even when stationary if you turn the steering it makes the noise. its a bit creepy.

annoying as well

Knowing your mechanic, they probably put them in dry & didn't use the supplied lubricant.

Get under the car & have a look. If its whiteline gear there should be white go where the control arm goes through it...

yes they do everything wrong. next service im taking it somewhere else and getting them to thoroughly check over it.

with all the torque the front still rises a fair mount so they'll be copping a beating as well.

ill look at it soon. if so what do i do? and it is whiteline gear

finally took it to a different mechanic to sus out the noise. while parked had the bonnet up and turning the steering wheel he listened to where the sound was coming from.

it was from the top of the strut :S

he said it might be the pillowball so he put some wd40 onto it.

next day went back hadnt changed. now when i go over bumps though there is a loud knock from the same shock. theyre brand newish koni shocks. so it cant be them.

he said something about a bearing on top of the strut that connects to the pillowball?

or could it be my pillowball mount that is rooted?

they're cusco ones i bought from japan. second hand though...

hmm but yeah he said he might have to take the shock out to diagnose unless you guys can have a go from this description?????
