Overheating and losing water every 2 weeks cant find leak

hey recently my fto has been overheating about once every 2 weeks, i know that its because of a lack of water (ussualy needs about 3 litres when it overheats) the leak must be a real slow 1 but have obviously done a full flush and tightned all the hoses/ checked for splits and cracks.

when it starts overheating i can keep the tempreture down by actually keeping it in lower gears (dosent make sence because engine is revving harder) maybe because the engine is taking more air in? have replaced the radiator cap also and use coolant in radiator. the resivour loses water also and that line isnt blocked.

wont overheat for ages till water is nearly gone so not the thermostat or pump

Have you looked at your heater core?
Could be shot?

see if it just does it on the highway

as for the reving more its cause the water pump runs off the timing belt
( check that its not leaking at the water pump )

bduffman i think your on the money, after some fun today the problem finally got worse and the leak can be located..... its from the drivers side and there is no pipes from the radiator up high so it must be the water pump, i shall have a look at it today

anyone got a guide for replacing the water pump? links? cant5 find anything on this forum. if you cant find a guide a quick set of instructions will do, thanx.

lol, no real 'quick set' of instuctions for a water pump.

You have to strip the timing belt assembly off. Big job.

yeah i cant see exactly where the water is coming from because of all the plastic, but it could only be the water pump or the gasket right if its coming from that side(prob not the gasket though)??

they want ju8st over a hundred dollars for a water pump but it will take weeks to get in at supercheap, is there some1 that would be better to try? and should i order it now so its here by the time i am ready to do the work?

leaks maybe a glass of water a miniut, reckon it will get much worse in 2 weeks or so?

$100 is about right.

Think you'll find it'll be the main shaft seal thats gone in the pump. Either way, because the pump forms part of the timing belt circuit, it all has to come off just to get at it.

so order 1 anyway? and should i replace the timing belt while im there? its done 130,000kms and was changed at 100,000 according to the last owner(i took his word for it because i asked a week after i had already brought the car so i dont thiunk he had a reason to lie)

Yeah, you may as well. Check all the other items in the belt circuit too, like the belt idler & tensioner. Quite often they change the belt & nothing else, where you really should change belt, water pump, tensioners etc all in the one hit every 100,000kms. That way you've got piece of mind till at least 230,000kms.

This metals where changed from my piston rods they are f**king destroyed las pictures is compared to a decent one form a toyota 3sge engine.




This is not big deal you just change them and that it.

This was due to overheating so star checking out strange noises at low revs. My car was overheated around 10 times that day and it was done...i was in the road away from lima so i had to drive it back to the garage with 220 F on fever!!!!!!!

I hope you dont have this consequences

fans are working when they need to? headgasket trouble?

am looking around in the engine bay and am trying to get this cover offl that runs down between both the timing belt covers as i thinki the leak is coming from behind there and maybe the pump is behind there too. looks like i have to take the harmonic balancer/main pulley ior wateva it is off because the guard wraps around it.

is the water pump behind there?

the water comes out between the gap of this cover and the sump btw

Nah mate the top timing covers is separate from the cover behind the balancer. Pain to get off but it comes off.

update,1 bolt left to come off water pump, seems i have to take off something else again to get to it. clamps didngt hold the cam hears together and they slipped, know a good mechanic that works after hours that is gonna line em up 4 me. this job is a pain in the ass i know y they charge so much to do it.

theres a 14mm headed bolt that i have stripped the head now beause it was so tight its under the black peice of metal with the 4 bolt i have to behind the pulley(you can get most of them through the holes in the centre of the pulley. do have to take this peice off?

Why you removing everything? Taking timing belt off? Yep balancer needs to come off. There is a hold through the inner flash guard so you stick a extender through there with wheel off of course.

to replace water pump, already past that, just put socket on nut with ratchet and a metal bar on the end of it and turned the motor over lol

talking about this black partto the that is part of the engine mount and connected sorta to the power steering pump, have to get it off to get to the 7th water pump bolt under the risen part on the lower right hand side of the water pump, 1 bolt on here (the 1 that is behind the pulley) because it has a stripped head, cant get it out, lots of inox and trying to make grooves in it with cold chisel and hammer but the POS must be loctited in

this black metal part has to come off yeah? and any other tips for getting this bolt out? tryed vicegrips also
