Re: Got minor defect notice, sigh
Look there's some fucked cops but there's some ( rare ) good ones, but ild take a cop over any of the new mobile speed cameras or safety cameras , you can drive past a cop going the other way 10kms over no issue but can't with the cameras personly I think aus will f**k them self over in the long run
People get caught lose licence lose job get doll aus makes minis money ( great way to make money ay )
Or caught then catch public transport ( witch is fucked ) then they need to spend money to upgrade the public transport and they don't make money again

I would be going to court and basically arguing that a police officer is not a calibrated/accurate measuring device
they can calculate what it takes to piss people off quite accuraltly.

Re: Got minor defect notice, sigh
A mate of mine got a defect notice for his exhaust here in the UK, again without actually it being tested but on someones opinion. He went to the garage who fitted it and they gave him a letter saying it was within legal limits - case dropped.
Also for speeding - if you can be bothered with a solicitor/lawyer going in and saying "fook this, it takes actual proper evidence which can be submitted to the court, not someones opinion" then you would get away with it over here.
But you have a bollox system which is very anti-car from what I've read and heard before

Re: Got minor defect notice, sigh
Well i went to a shop named on their list of places to go for this sorta thing.
The guy asked me to start the car said it was fine and signed me off..
said its nothing that bad.
So defect notice sorted.
With the speeding ticket i asked these 2 policeman that come into the cafe fairly often for their advice. they were on my side sorta. they advised me to write a letter to the traffic liaison saying there is too much leeway etc about it. its not an accurate measurement and a lot of factors can contriibute to what a speedometer reads. Then see what they say.

If it was wet as well when you got done ild add that as well saying that you wouldn't speed around corners in the wet and that there speedo could have been wrong due to loss of traction haha but bottem line is they need proof but when it comes to cars the driver never wins they will look at u being a p plater in a done up sports car and straight away you have no chance

P-platers earned there own reputation. They are inexperienced and statically more accident prone... i agree that there are bad and good drivers all through the age/experience scale. However, when u see someone do something blatantly stupid, not general driving incompetence, but an open decision to drive badly, i look for the p-plates

Re: Got minor defect notice, sigh
working for Victoria Pol i can tell you what can occur in Vic.
next time if they try to say you were doing '10km over the limit' ask them to see the radar reading. if they do not have this then you cannot be charged! on your infringement sheet, they should state how the reading was taken.
as for the exhaust, i advise you to find out what the maximum dB reading you are allowed to have in your state. i dont know if you have an ETA commission like in Vic, which you can call and they can refer you to an authorised person who can check your dB reading. If you are under the legislative reading, take the evaluation to court and then you can fight that charge as well.
If you have a free legal aide service you can call or go in person to see what your rights are, i advise you to do that as well. Dont bother going into a police station, they will not help you against one of their own members.

Re: Got minor defect notice, sigh
That's true bout the police won't help
I got pulled over fined police drove off with my licence then gave it to my mate 5 mins after when they pulled him over
Called the police station asking if that was legal and the answer was
(Cop)Do you have your licence now (me) yes (cop)well then its all ok
They don't care cops break the law all the time but good luck trying to fine or arrest them you will end up shot

True enough, but it is possible to get done by a cop going the opposite direction.bduffman wrote:Look there's some fucked cops but there's some ( rare ) good ones, but ild take a cop over any of the new mobile speed cameras or safety cameras , you can drive past a cop going the other way 10kms over no issue but can't with the cameras personly I think aus will f**k them self over in the long run
Happened to me a while ago. Was around midnight, set of headlights coming the other way, didn't even think twice - until i saw him in my rear-view doing a U-turn

Highway Patrol with a dash mounted radar

Least speed/safety cameras announce themselves nicely with big signs, sucks the mobile ones don't.
