Bloody Wind

Post by dstocks »

Got absolutely hammered by the winds last night/this morning. One tree took out the shed with my tractor and generator in it (tractor not happy at all), another on the end of one of the greenhouses (lucky not many plants in that end) and a third one onto my tandem trailer (which survived with a couple of dints). They snapped off around 15 metres up. The trunks were around 2 feet thick where they broke. Have one tree on the property that has been uprooted that had a 3 foot thick trunk. The winds were crazy. The tops of the trees (40m high) were moving about 5 meters. Soooo much damage......Soooo much cleaning up to do.

If I dont answer your messages straight away, you know why.

Thanks for the offer. Its going to take days to clean up and repair the damage. Have taken the next two days off work to try and get the essentials done. Oh well what can you do. At least the tractor was insured. Is repairable I think. Generator came out unscathed other than the glass panel on the front which shattered (although it doesnt have cover tonight, so hopefully wont rain). Am going to try and rectify that tomorrow. The new extension I put on the middle greenhouse a month ago is toast. Lucky only one or two plants in it, so I guess thats a plus. As to the offer for help, I might just accept that yet, although ill see how I go in the next couple of days before I confirm. Have a neighbour coming down to help tomorrow. If the weekend does happen, have plenty of space in the house. The wife will be in Armidale studying and have a couple of spare rooms in the house.

On the plus side the FTO bonfire next April will be HUGE.

      Here are some pictures:

The tree pictured is the one I put the ladder against year before last to take the group photo at the bonfire. Is about 2 feet thick where it broke. This is not the biggest one.

      Tractor is under this lot:

      Trailer is under this:

There are quite a few other trees that have come down as well, but havent got any other piccies at this stage.

There is no way you are going to get that fixed up on your own mate.

Ok boys and girls time to get your names up for a working bee next weekend.
It's time to help someone that helps us, return the favor so to speak :D
This way if we get a list going now we can get in and give a hand when Dstocks gives us the green light :D
