Removing a resonator this weekned..... Which 1??!!??
hey, going to be removing a resonator and replacing it with some exhaust pipe in order to acheive a louder exhaust hopefully, ive heard it will change the note but even if i could get the system sounding 5% louder i would be happy.
dont want it to sound too raspy or too deep but if thats how it has to be then its only gonna cost me a couple of hours to take off section a weld pipe there.
its the stock system even though i have a full exhaust system including extractors(bad design and causes car too lose power..... long story)
as much info or suggestions as possible would be good
which 1 should i remove????????

Just go down and get the muffler changed, As that will change the sound.
Get them to try diferent ones untill you get one you like.
But try to get a high flow.

Re: Removing a resonator this weekned..... Which 1??!!??
I was going to do this aswell as i have 2 resonators aswell, but after talking to my fabricator last week. who has worked on fto's before says that removing a resonator will make the fto "popping sound" while quick acceleration and deceleration , will make it a bit louder but not dramatically, but will get a popping sound(close to trail bike exhaust i think) rather than a crisp note which the resonators do. If you just want sound getting better muffler or you can disgustingly get a cannon
haha.

Re: Removing a resonator this weekned..... Which 1??!!??
hmmm thanx i might not take out a resonaotor then, i will buy a 2 and a quarter inch free flowing muffler for the rear then use some old exhaust thats lying around at my dads nand just put a dual tip on it.
actually would it be such a bad idea to use my 3" free flowing muffler because its got the tips and everything on it already....... ill just have to find a good easy way to go from 2 and a quarter inch to 3" any ideas how i can do that? i know it might not sound like a great idea but all it will cost me is time and i like tinkering lol
thanx in advance for the info

Ummmmmm, you don't need 3"
it's an NA.
My wagon has 3" turbo back with only a rear muffler, 98dB @ 3krpm, no pops, but screams at 6K
On an FTO, you have more scope, so would be louder still.
Bushido has an exhaust thread which has a recording of his car which is DAMN loud.

yeah i understand backpressure and velocity obviously, but i alreadyhave everything and being at the back it wouldent matter as much if the rest is standard including 2 resonators and with the original manifold
right????????
right????????

I thought it has been proven many times. On an N/A FTO 2.5" is the way to go.

1. already have the 3" rear section
2. hopefully only changing the section at the back wont make much differnce
3. i may go to exhaust shop and get a free flowing 2 and a half" muffler and spend a few hours welding

If youre going to delete a resonator you might as well get rid of the larger (main) one.
From personal experience, it will make your car very much louder, pop of decel and scare the sh*t out of passer bys.
Perfect for giving your car a bit of a rev when you pass someone who has come into your lane without indicating. Those people sh*t me.
That is all

Re: Removing a resonator this weekned..... Which 1??!!??
so you want it to sound like this on the street
and I should add that this is only a 2.5" and one small resignator, no cat or mufflers
"USED ON TRACK ONLY"
and get some of this

and get some of this

Re: Removing a resonator this weekned..... Which 1??!!??
sounds pretty sweet aza
just adapted the existing exhaust to my old 3 inch rear muffler and a mandrel bent pipe then a large dual tip. pipe went from 2 and a quarter inch to 3 inch about 30cms after the last flange at the back of the car (bear the rear sway bar)
didnt seem to lose any power really but didnt gain any either
exhaust is probably 40% louder around 3k revs and about 5% deeper at 8k revs and about 35% deeper sound all the time
overall pretty happy with result and how it all came together in under 3 hours
to adapt different size pipe i made a metal plate with a 2 and a quarter inch hole in it and welded both end of the pipe to it.
seemed better than the first idea i had of stepping down the pipe size with with other varying sizes of pipe acting as sleeves
would have went 2.5" but i did this for free(wel because i already had a 3" system that had all the mounts and bends for the rear of an fto i just used this. may still get it all 2.5" one day
